General

  • Luxury bell tents with carpet and wifi
  • Decking surrounded by lots of garden space
  • Swish shower block with underfloor heating and mood lighting

Now this is some serious glamping... and with some seriously swish facilities too. Sunridge Glamping has luxury bell tents with a bit of a Devon twist – carpet, double bed and wifi for starters – and a shower block so indulgent you'd be happy to have it set up at home...

Accommodation first: there are only two bell tents at Sunridge so privacy and space is assured, and both come with those carpets and double beds as well as a table and chairs, rugs and beanbags. Each has its own deck surrounded by plentiful garden space – and is among the hills and streams of the Yealm Valley in the South Hams for glamping in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

And that indulgent shower block... as we say, it's seriously swish and has underfloor heating, mood lighting, a shaving socket and a heated towel rail. Outside, Sunridge also has a washing-up sink, bench seating and a communal firepit.

The tent was immaculate and really secluded. Shaing the lovely bathroom with one other tent posed no problem and with only 3 deellings on the site it was incredibly peaceful. Barbeque was great for dinner and breakfast. Bed was comfy with warm duvet. Fridge worked perfectly. Kettle was handy. Totally loved the who experience and will be back for a longer stay.

    Disliked:

Would have loved to be able to swim in the lake but the water was not very inviting.

The website really doesn't do this site justice. It was mine & my partners first holiday together, and both of our first times glamping. As soon as we arrived my partner told me this is where she wanted to come for our honeymoon. It was so secluded, and the perfect break from life that we needed. I can't tell you how idealic and beautiful this was, we'll definitely be back!

EVERYTHING! This place is amazing. The pod is so much bigger than it looks, full of all utensils you need for the whole weekend and more. Amazing bathroom for the Pods size. Secluded and tranquil. Hot tub was lovely, with lights and music in! Great whatever the weather. Lovely scenery & about 30 mins from Brixham/Paignton etc. Craig was great - helped me with everything I needed including checking in slightly earlier. Would definitely stay again

The cosy, personal setup of the Luxury tent was exactly what was needed for a quiet getaway. Tent was sturdy and well equipped. Bed was comfortable and the inside of the tent felt like a little home, even for our one night stay. The personal BBQ and picnic table made sorting supper and playing games afterwards a treat. The toilet/shower facility was immaculate. Shared only with the other bell tent (which happened to be vacant when we stayed) meant there were no queues.

    Disliked:

Noisy neighbour in an Ecopod but the campsite owners contacted them to turn the noise down before we could even react. Efficient and thoughtful

We stayed in the eco pod, it was very clean and had everything you needed to cook with. The tv was great, so was the surroundings. The hot tub was nice.
It was very calm and peaceful. I liked the fact you wasn't checked in or out by the owners, it was very relaxed.
Was really close to Plymouth, wouldn't be able to get around much with out a car.

    Disliked:

The pictures make the pod and land around it look alot bigger than what they actually are.
The sofa bed as it was very uncomfortable. The Bluetooth speaker didn't work or charge and also the speakers on the hot tub didn't work.

We fell in love with this little pod as we didn't really fancy camping again this year due to the weather being a little wet this summer! This felt like a good safety measure and it didn't dissapoint. Completely secluded from the other tents and with its own cute garden we had the most relaxing stay. The best part was the gorgeous compact kitchen that was better than the kitchen we have at home! Minus a dishwasher of course! Our evenings were spent either dining outside and when it got chilly we watched a movie on the huge 3D TV. Its even got a lovely shower and compact sink that has to be seen to be believed. Had the best time time and will be back...

    Disliked:

Having to pack the car and leave again.

Directions

From London, take the M4, then the M5 to Exeter. Continue onto the A38 leaving at the junction to Ugborough and Ermington. Follow the signs for the A379 to Yealmpton. One mile before Yealmpton turn right at Dunstone Cross and travel one mile to us.

From the north, take the M5 to Bristol and continue on the M5 until the A38 in Devon. Then follow directions as above.

From the south-west, drive to Plymouth, take the A379 to Kingsbridge and head towards Elburton / Brixton / Yealmpton. One mile after Yealmpton turn left at Dunstone Cross and travel one mile to us.

Look out for a bungalow-style roofed house. Next to the house is a narrow cobbled lane: start going down here and turn immediately left into the gate. Follow the lane and you'll notice a big field with horses to your right. Turn left at the bamboo planting.

You can park on the chippings near the shower block to avoid damaging the grass near your tent.

Prior to arrival, we will confirm which tent you're in so that you can just let yourselves in, relax and enjoy.

Local attractions

Lots and lots to get your teeth into around the South Hams and Devon... including several fab beaches just minutes away that are often deserted: have a wander along Mothercombe Beach, five minutes away and used as a location for an adaptation of Sense and Sensibility (as was nearby Georgian Saltram House).

Take to your feet for the miles of country trails around Sunridge Glamping, where you can take your pick from paths along the River Erme as well as high-up hikes of the South West Coastal Path.

Many local villages are nearby to wander and pick up fresh local produce like locally grown chillies and spices, fish landed daily, dairy produce, Devon clotted cream and the freshest of eggs, and other Devon delicacies like pheasant, quail, sea bass, John Dory fish, free-range home-cured bacon...

Also around the villages are snapworthy scenes of eighteenth and nineteenth century architecture, dozens of antique shops and many old pubs serving traditional local ale; have a day in Dartmouth if poss to find craft and pastry shops, jewellers and organic cafés serving cream teas with jam made from locally grown strawberries.

Have a look – and an eat – too at Kingsbridge, Modbury, Newton Ferrers, Noss Mayo and Yealmpton, all close by and all with award-winning pubs and restaurants with sea and river views.
