General

  • Secluded campsite on the edge of Dartmoor
  • 24 acres in which to camp and glamp
  • Perfect place to relax and connect with nature

Hideaway Camping is a beautiful, secluded campsite on the edge of Dartmoor. Set within 24 acres of tranquil and private Devon countryside, Hideaway is close to the charming market towns of Okehampton and Tavistock and within easy reach of the seaside resort of Bude.

Time spent at Hideaway will bring you babbling brooks and magical woodlands, spacious fields and peaceful walks, swinging hammocks and picnic areas, crackling campfires and starry nights. All of this without even leaving the campsite. Staying at Hideaway offers just what the name promises. The perfect place to let yourself relax, unwind, connect with nature and feel refreshed and revived.

Little Melbury cabin is the communal space which includes 2 showers and 2 flushing loos. There is a shared kitchen with a cooker, microwave and fridge, pots and pans, and basic cooking utensils. On wet days you can chill out on the sofa next to the log burner, browse through our selection of books, enjoy a board game and gather information on the local area and tourist attractions. Also there is a kids' corner with books, toys and puzzles and a decking area outside with chairs and a great view.

    - Amazing hosts
    - Lovely scenery (would be better in the sun! :) )
    - Cute pigs
    - Attention to detail in the hut
    - Facilities were amazing
    - Very peaceful there

    Disliked:

    - The only thing was the dirt road leading in, if you have a 4 X 4 it shouldn't be an issue but for standard cars it really put a strain on it. There's a lot of deep pot holes, be very careful when driving through it :)

From the manager...

What wonderful pics!! Glad you had a good time. The track is an on going, pot hole filling mission for us. We all have standard cars here but yes you do need to drive carefully. Hope to see you again!

We have fantastic time during our 6days5 nights stay. My kids even wish to stay "forever" :) The campsite is well maintained, got planty spaces to explore cheer out, and wonder around. Toilets and shower rooms are very clean and tidy. The owners are very thoughtful, helpful and friendly. They even arranged the campfire and a Easter eggs hunt to celebrate the occasion. It is easy to acess to National park from campsite, meldon reservoir is magical and well worth a visit. Over all the whole experience were wonderful, we turely recommend it.

Nice but not for rainy weather 02/08/2016

The place in itself is beautiful, much space for kids to explore and beautiful and very comfortable facilities.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately the facilities are way too far from the campsites. We had the very last tent on the campground and it was a long walk through long and wet grass to the facilities. Even worse at night... Since we had very rainy weather, we ended up with all our shoes, socks, and jeans wet and had nothing dry anymore to use, which made it very complicated. With the damp weather nothing dried and there was little to do for the kids with that weather anyways.
The campground isn't easy to find either and the long dirt road not very suitable for small (low) vehicles.
