  • Wild camping on a family-run hill farm in Dartmoor National Park
  • A 10-minute drive to The Granite Way; wild swimming pool very close by
  • Small firepits and barbecues welcome; pub and shop nearby
Diving into Dartmoor National Park for cycling-ready trails or hikes in the craggy tors? Elvan Farm Campsite will open the doors nicely, as this wild camping site belongs to a traditional family-run farm in the hills of the national park with some dazzling sunsets, scenery and plenty of space to find a peaceful spot to settle in and unwind. Once you’re all set up, you’ll want to weigh up your options. Will it be a hike up into the hills directly from the site? Wild swimming in Shilley Pool, just five minutes’ walk away? Perhaps a casual stroll into one of the local villages to call into one of the traditional country pubs? Onto one of the cycling trails within 15 minutes' drive of the site? The local village has just the spot, five minutes’ drive away, as there’s a café, pub and shop with the essentials, including fresh fruit and veg. For somewhere a little bigger and buzzier, Okehampton has shops and supermarkets 15 minutes’ drive away where you'll be able to source more specific food items. On site, you're welcome to set up a small firepit or barbecue. In the way of other facilities, you’ll also have access to toilets.

What customers say

This is a simple, remote campsite in Dartmoor, praised for its peaceful location, stunning views, and direct access to moorland walks and wild swimming. Guests highlight Hayley's exceptional friendliness and helpfulness. Facilities, including clean portable toilets and showers, are generally well-maintained. While some found the track to the site overgrown, most found it easy to locate. The campsite is recommended for its quiet, natural setting and value.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely company, beautiful views, amazing walks. There is also a natural water pool next to it. Took us about 15 mins or so walk and it was just out of this world my family loved it. Toliets where clean.

Disliked Toliets where portuterloos i would rather have compost toliets.
When driving into the field you pick and space I would rather have a pitch. Grass was a little long.

From the manager: Hello,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Thank you for your feedback.

Just to explain regarding the toilets, we have tried to get planning, because we are in Dartmoor National Park, for proper, functioning toilets and shower cubicles, however we were turned down. It’s really difficult to get planning accepted in this area. But it is something that we are going to look at trying to do again.

Also, the field was cut as we opened, but have been busy since so haven’t had the opportunity to cut it again.

Hope this can give a little insight, and thank you for visiting 😊

Excellent site: clean facilities, friendly owner and level pitches.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Simple no frills campsite with plenty of space. Perfect for us as we can walk straight onto the moor and we can have a fire in the evening to relax after a days hiking. Fresh eggs and fire wood for sale. Hayley really helpful and keeps it all stocked cleans the port o loos twice a day so they are kept clean and plenty of loo roll and hand sanitiser

Disliked Nothing. Works for us. Occasionally people didn't clean the toilet after themselves which is a bit annoying but they were cleaned twice a day by the owners and not much you can do about other people

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful views, peaceful and remote.
Great toilet facilities - private, clean and separate toilets for men and women. Lovely bottled water available for drinking and water available on tap for everything else.
Hayley was very welcoming and keen to ensure we had a great stay, answering queries before our visit and popping by to make sure we were OK on site and had everything we needed. Even Misty the farm cat made a friendly appearance to keep us company in our van one evening! Great site, would recommend and will certainly be back. Many thanks Haley and team. Best, Michelle

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful location on the edge od Dartmoor. It seems very remote but not far from several pubs and the main road to Cornwall. Toilets and shower. Hayley brought us logs for our fire pit at no extra cost. Dark sky location and very close to wild swimming opportunity in the Shilley Pool.

Disliked All good.
