  • Family-run site on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park
  • Just over 10 minutes’ drive to Newton Abbot and 30 to Torquay beaches
  • Bovey Tracey within 15 minutes and Paignton half an hour away
For a hol full of zest in south Devon squeeze in some time at family-run Lemonford Caravan Park, a well-located spot for exploring the many attractions in this area. It’s between country and coast right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and half an hour’s drive from the beaches around the English Riviera resorts of Torquay and Paignton. After settling in, trekkers might want to tackle the craggy terrain of Dartmoor first, scrambling over the hills and paddling in the streams and rivers of this sprawling granite-studded setting. The walk up to Hay Tor (starting from just over 10 minutes’ drive away) is stellar if you’re seeking a structured stroll: it’ll have you taking in the classic moorland scenery while you work up a sweat. Widecombe in the Moor (a 15-minute drive) is also worth stopping by for a typical Devonshire town with a cracker of a church (so splendid it's known as the Cathedral of the Moor). More of a beachcomber? You can make a beeline towards Teignmouth and Dawlish for castle-building on the sand or choose Paignton Pier for coastal sessions in between tenpin bowling, fairground rides and crazy golf (all around 30 minutes’ drive away). Leaflets for farm parks, model villages, caves and other stuff to do are all on display at the site’s information area if you’ll be looking for more attractions and activities. Also at Lemonford Caravan Park are amenities including toilets, showers, washing-up areas, a shared freezer and a laundry room; a spacious separate wetroom and toilet are also available for guests with limited mobility. For other essentials like supermarkets and town shops, Newton Abbot (just over 10 minutes away) is your hub and it has a leisure centre should kids be wanting to swap sessions on the park playground for splashing in a swimming pool.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked ?

Disliked This is an Irish traveler site. With a bit of space for tents. We left earlier Because the kids were throwing big sharp rocks and planks of wood at our tent. Even when I told them to stop. One child even threw a metal bucket at my son.
There is rubbish everywhere the toilet / shower and washing up area was full of flys and not really great. There’s a reason it’s so Cheap.
It backs on to a busy road, so sounds like your on a motorway.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Price only. Avoid at all costs. Read reviews before booking.

Disliked As we arrived-no one was at the reception. Called the number, lady said take any pitch u want. Found the pitch-and fun started. Travellers/gypsies next to us left their dog wander around our tents. Then their kids were running around our tents, looking into them. Then another two gipsy kids arrived with water guns, coming right to our sitting area, telling us "I will spray you right now,do you want it? I will count till three-one,two...." somehow we managed to tell them to go away. Then they came later with water buckets, running and throwing those buckets around my kids. Their parents were walking up and down the road looking at us, trying to intimidate us. We were 3 families with 5 kids between us,youngest 7month old. It lasted till probably 9pm. We went to bed, wondering what we going to wake up to. Their dog was literally barking for 30 mins straight,at night, not letting majority of other pitchers to sleep. Woke up next morning, all was good, nothing had been touched- but then again, these kiddos appeared and started to spray with water guns my sister in law with her 7m old baby. Running over our tents again. At this point we thought it aint safe, we wouldn't even be able to go out and leaving our tents there. Our other kids were staying inside as they were scared to even walk around. Spoke to receptionist, they aint interested, travellers are long term there- so nothing they can do-or simply they don't really care. Spoke to the woman on the phone, she was apologetic, told she will refund-never did! We had to leave as it was not safe at all. Please,please,please-avoid at all costs. Also-facilities,all run down, and messy after travellers. I wonder if the owner is a traveller itself, therefore they don't care. Ive sent messages,email-never got a call back. PLEASE-this place is not worth a penny. I did read the review, and the travellers were mentioned-but I thought I will give it a go. AVOID! Trust the reviews.DON'T BOOK WITH THEM.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked I travelled overnight with my 12 year old daughter. It’s a lovely site with a lot of potential, but needs sone TLC from the management. The site layout, availability of the loos on site, electric hook up available for tents were fab.

Disliked The site was untidy, there was rubbish on the grass and the ladies showers / toilet block stank of cigarette, there were no hand towels in the dispensers.
Toilet paper was available in 2 out of 4 cubicles and hand slab in one basin. The shower had rubbish on the floor, including someone’s disposable razor shaver.
Bins are placed next to the ladies showers/toilet entry so in order to get there, one has to go through the smell and flies.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked Great location for access into Dartmoor. Easy check and loved the fact that we could choose our pitch. Pitches were flat and the showers were hot, which was just what was needed after a long walk on Dartmoor on a very cold day.

Disliked The kitchen area could do with a clean. We ended up taking our dirty cutlery and dishes home to stick everything through the dishwasher.

Local attractions

It’s 10 minutes’ drive from here to Buckfast Abbey, an active Benedictine monastery dating back to 1018; get cultural here then balance it out with an offbeat activity like a trip to the House of Marbles in the small town of Bovey Tracey (under 15 minutes away) for the mesmerising glass displays, games museum and pottery pieces. For urban times in a bigger settlement, Exeter’s 30 minutes away – skedaddle here to tour the cathedral and the city centre’s underground passages; high-street shopping is also excellent in Devon’s capital on the River Exe. Also on the water, Plymouth is 35 minutes south if you fancy checking out the famed spot where the Pilgrim fathers first left for the US on the Mayflower in 1620...
