  • Peaceful organic farm and apple orchard a mile from Stokeinteignhead
  • A mile from a sandy beach and the South West Coast Path
  • Firepit/barbecue area and kitchen facilities provided
A peaceful spot among the cobnut trees and looking out to an organic apple orchard… it’s quite possible you’ll want to nest at The Hen's Dens at Orchard Organic Farm for some time… Grab a perch at this family-friendly site in the south Devon countryside, 15 minutes from Newton Abbot, and you’ll be in for a real rural break, at a farm that produces organic apples and veggies and is home to a flock of happy hens that peck their way around the place. A few lungfuls of fresh air may well tempt you out into the open for meals, so it's handy that there are picnic benches, firepits and barbecues provided to keep you fed and toasty while you take in the rural views, the sunset or the starry skies. If the weather doesn’t approve of such antics, take refuge in the local pub, a mile away in pretty Stokeinteignhead, or head into a covered cooking area that's got a fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. Guests also have access to an outside tap and wetsuit rinsing area, and there's plenty of space for kids to play among the trees. Free-range folks will find plenty of roaming to be done in the area: Maidencombe beach and the South West Coast Path are a mile away and Torquay’s a 15-minute drive. Exeter and Dartmoor National Park are both within 35 minutes.

What customers say

This peaceful, small campsite is set within a beautiful apple orchard, offering unique, private pitches and stunning countryside views. Visitors praise the excellent, immaculately clean facilities, including private shower rooms and a communal kitchen area with useful appliances. The location is ideal for exploring local beaches and coastal paths. While the site is highly recommended for its tranquil atmosphere and friendly owners, some mention that pitches can be small, uneven, or stony, and a few experienced issues with mud during wetter periods.

Greensleeve fully-serviced grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked We love this little campsite and have returned many times.
It’s close to the coast footpath. We walk to Torquay with the dog and bus back.
2 pubs close by.
The little cafe above the beach at nearby Maidencombe is a must.

Disliked The pitch we had was dry and hard to secure the tent. Although we managed to do it in the end.

Katy fully-serviced grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Unique pitches surrounded by apple tree orchard. Very pretty and quiet. Cost is a bargain including electric hookup. Use of microwave, kettle and toaster is excellent.

Disliked Thought someone had left their towel in the toilet/shower room but they are dark grey hand towels for customers to use. I’m sure they are washed and clean put out regularly but I don’t think sharing towels is hygienic. I would prefer no hand drying facilities rather than a used towel.
Pitches are very close together.

Bramley fully-serviced grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely small site with pitches set in marked bays in orchard. Clean and well-maintained toilets and showers. Great touches such as kettle, toaster, washing machine and rotary drier for communal use. Games room.
Good value for EHU though we prefer the option to not have it.
Lovely walks around and close to site - short walk to coastal path.

Disliked Found our pitch(Bramley) a bit small - no room for our awning.
Like the environmental ethos of the site but not keen on shared towels.

Katy fully-serviced grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely location with pitches nestled amongst orchard trees which offer a little privacy from the neighbours. Great walking advice from the owner.

Disliked Toilets and showers are a little rustic and rudimentary. Not cleaned until late afternoon which didn't seem to tie in with the 3pm arrival request. We assumed the late arrival time was to allow for house keeping which wasn't the case. Our neighbours from hell (not the fault of the hosts) had left their detritus on the pitch and the new arrivals had to move it all before they could get their van onto the pitch. So nobody had inspected the pitch in between their departure and a new arrival. Also need to be aware that a mother and toddler group appear to have the use of the facilities on certain mornings. Not that they bothered us, but you should be aware of the dual use of the site, which results in quite a bit of vehicular traffic that you wouldn't expect for a 6 pitch site.

Local attractions

Being a mere mile from the south Devon coast, you’ll no doubt be wanting to get down there, whatever flavour of seaside sojourn you favour. Get your boots to stride along the scenic South West Coast Path, or totter along to quiet Maidencombe beach, a mile away, for sandcastles and sea paddling. No need to restrict yourselves to one beach though – there are plenty of gorgeous specimens along this stretch of coastline. Try Ness Cove (five minutes away by car) for fishing and rockpooling or Teignmouth (10 minutes) for traditional amusements along the pier and prom. Babbacombe Model Village and Paignton Zoo Environmental Park are both within a 20-minute drive if you need a break from the beaches. Active types may like to head north to Dartmoor National Park (35 minutes) for all sorts of walks and bike rides, plus horse riding, climbing, canoeing and wild swimming. Folks with more of an eye for history and culture will want to wend their way towards Exeter (half an hour) instead to take in the cathedral, museums and 600-year-old Powderham Castle.
