Pitch between the trees

  • Peaceful organic farm and apple orchard a mile from Stokeinteignhead
  • A mile from a sandy beach and the South West Coast Path
  • Firepit/barbecue area and kitchen facilities provided
A peaceful spot among the cobnut trees and looking out to an organic apple orchard… it’s quite possible you’ll want to nest at The Hen's Dens at Orchard Organic Farm for some time… Grab a perch at this family-friendly site in the south Devon countryside, 15 minutes from Newton Abbot, and you’ll be in for a real rural break, at a farm that produces organic apples and veggies and is home to a flock of happy hens that peck their way around the place. A few lungfuls of fresh air may well tempt you out into the open for meals, so it's handy that there are picnic benches, firepits and barbecues provided to keep you fed and toasty while you take in the rural views, the sunset or the starry skies. If the weather doesn’t approve of such antics, take refuge in the local pub, a mile away in pretty Stokeinteignhead, or head into a covered cooking area that's got a fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. Guests also have access to an outside tap and wetsuit rinsing area, and there's plenty of space for kids to play among the trees. Free-range folks will find plenty of roaming to be done in the area: Maidencombe beach and the South West Coast Path are a mile away and Torquay’s a 15-minute drive. Exeter and Dartmoor National Park are both within 35 minutes.

What customers say

This peaceful, small campsite, set in an apple orchard, offers a tranquil escape with beautiful views. Guests consistently praise the clean, well-maintained individual toilet and shower facilities, along with useful communal areas including a kitchenette and washing machine. The site's location is ideal for exploring the local area, with easy access to coastal paths and nearby amenities. While most pitches are well-received, some report them as small, muddy in wet weather, or challenging to access with larger vehicles or tents. The owners are frequently commended for their friendliness and helpfulness.

Falstaff fully-serviced grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nothing. Small cramped ash pitches. Claustrophobic.

Disliked The approach in was shocking. We were in a 6 mtr campervan which we struggled to manoeuvre. We hit a rock which took off our fresh water tap a damaged meaning g we had to buy a new one.

The Perch camping pod (five person, private bathroom amenities)

Liked Lovely little site and the camping pod was brilliant. We booked The Perch camping pod, very roomy, especially since we had our GSD dog with us. Added bonus of a double camp bed already there, although we had brought our own. My daughter still used hers, the double was very comfy. Our own separate (labelled, with key entry) shower, toilet and kitchenette area, which had a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, very useful. Separate washing up area as well clearly labelled. All very clean. Picnic bench with umbrella and cooking/bbq area by pod, great idea and very useful. The pod is surrounded by bushes and trees, so feels like you have the area to yourselves. Parking bay for your pod a short walk down the path from the pod. Overall a very nice campsite, with all the amenities. Perfect location for all the places we wanted to visit and see. Thanks Jerry and Emma for a great stay.

Disliked Obviously time of year, bushes slightly overgrown around pod, but no biggy.
Would be handy to have a dog, wetsuit/paddleboard wash station, so you can was the salt water and sand off them.

Greensleeve fully-serviced grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Excellent toilet block and showers.
15-30 min walk to beach.

Disliked Really quite squashed together pitches right at bottom of orchard opposite dirt track and hedge.
New set of pitches higher up also don’t have much of a view - just old chicken shed and no grass so very barren at the moment.
No option to not have EHU.

Bramley fully-serviced grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A family run small site with buckets of personality! We loved the facilities which included individual toilets with showers and an outside kitchen area that included a microwave. All hidden away and accessed via willow arch. Stunning views and individual picnic benches. A real haven in the countryside, this is what camping in a van is all about.

Local attractions

Being a mere mile from the south Devon coast, you’ll no doubt be wanting to get down there, whatever flavour of seaside sojourn you favour. Get your boots to stride along the scenic South West Coast Path, or totter along to quiet Maidencombe beach, a mile away, for sandcastles and sea paddling. No need to restrict yourselves to one beach though – there are plenty of gorgeous specimens along this stretch of coastline. Try Ness Cove (five minutes away by car) for fishing and rockpooling or Teignmouth (10 minutes) for traditional amusements along the pier and prom. Babbacombe Model Village and Paignton Zoo Environmental Park are both within a 20-minute drive if you need a break from the beaches. Active types may like to head north to Dartmoor National Park (35 minutes) for all sorts of walks and bike rides, plus horse riding, climbing, canoeing and wild swimming. Folks with more of an eye for history and culture will want to wend their way towards Exeter (half an hour) instead to take in the cathedral, museums and 600-year-old Powderham Castle.
