At Dartmoor Halfway Inn, a family-friendly site in the grounds of a pub-restaurant 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Newton Abbot in Devon, South West England, you get the best of both worlds. Two minutes from the edge of Dartmoor National Park, The Halfway Inn is well placed for exploration – you can walk, cycle, ride, canoe or climb your way around the park, travel from scenic village to scenic village, or learn about the history of the area. The site and pub are dog friendly too, so ramblers should feel free to bring their canine companions along for the walk. On site, kick back by the river Lemon, which passes just behind the campgrounds, or relax in the open green field – kids who aren’t quite ready to sit still for the evening can burn off any residual energy in the on-site playground. When the whole family is ready for dinner, stroll over to the Halfway Inn for a slap-up meal, then knock back a few beers or a couple of glasses of wine – or juice for the kids – and toddle back to where you’re spending the night less than 200 metres away. If you’d prefer a change of scenery, there are plenty of other restaurants in Newton Abbot and within 10 minutes’ drive of Halfway Inn.

Liked We really enjoyed our stay here staff in pub were so lovley food was amazing can’t wait to come back try more love how pet and child friendly this place is the campsite pitch was well taken care of plenty of room showers so hot loved it you can change temp if need to clean good facilities everything you need can’t wait to book again

Liked The site was nicely located and well turned out.

Disliked The negative was putting me on pitch 2 next to a Yurt tent that the occupants couldn’t shut up to 3am so getting so much lose of sleep, the worst Pitch up I’ve had since having a motor home.

Liked Was quiet so not an issue but surprised only one toilet in ladies.
WiFi wasn't working but no resl issue.
Pub food was really lovely.
Close to road but again wasn't an issue once in van.
Slight abrupt and confused staff when went to check in at bar but was all sorted easily.
On whoke nicely kept site, great little stop over for us.

Liked A very tidy clean site with very helpful staff.we went at a quiet time end os September.
The reviews commented on the road noise but after 9pm it went quiet so all in all a very good stay

Liked Every thing central to all our needs Great food in the pub.shower room was very clean each site had their own black bin which was emptied daily. All in all a delightful stay

Liked The pitch was as described and we'll kept. It was secluded by the planting of bushes around. The site was very clean and the showers and toilets were cleaned every morning. The showers were very good . The food in the Inn was very good and had an excellent choice of wines and spirits. The staff were courteous, friendly and helpful.

You can barely turn a corner in this part of Devon without coming face to face with a stately manor – Bradley, Compton Castle, Greenway, Castle Drogo, Coleton Fishacre, Cockington Court, Torre Abbey and Dartington Hall are all with 45 minutes’ drive, and a visit to the spectacular 16-sided A la Ronde, 35 minutes away, is highly recommended. Tipplers might like to make the trip to Buckfast Abbey outside Buckfastleigh (10 minutes), though you won’t be able to do tours or tastings at the factory. If the Abbey doesn’t get you steaming, head to the South Devon Railway and climb aboard the vintage train, or abandon alcohol-related puns altogether and head to the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary. Fawlty Towers fans will be keen to learn that Torquay is less than 30 minutes away. Although you can no longer visit the real-life hotel behind the comedy, there’s plenty to keep you entertained: follow the Agatha Christie Mile to get a glimpse of some of the spots that inspired the murder mystery maven, dive below the Devon coast in the prehistoric Kents Cavern, or play giant at Babbacombe Model Village.
