General

  • South Devon farm site with spectacular views
  • Slipway access to launch small boats, canoes and kayaks
  • Wooded glade, barbecues and farm shop

The laidback owners of Wilton Farm just outside Kingsbridge in south Devon very much like their local landscape. They've been living in the area for over 50 years, but resolutely say they'll never tire of looking at the glorious views from their farm: after a peek at the site pics (go on), you'll probably a) agree and b) have envy...

Wilton Farm is on eight acres of land, with splendidly spectacular scenes across the site to Salcombe and to the local village of South Pool, all tucked into South Hams countryside a couple of miles from the – also highly scenic – Devon coast.
And there's messing around in boats here too. One of the Wilton Farm family's fave places on site is the good-looking glade where guests can go to relax – right next to the farm's own slipway access where lucky ducks with their own vessels can launch canoes, kayaks or small boats onto the estuary (use the 'special requests' box to ask about bringing your small boat when you book). You might now heave an envious sigh...

As it's a working farm, Wilton has stacks of fresh tasty produce to sell in its shop, and a barbecue area on site too to sizzle up a storm. Another envious sigh...

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

A charge of £0.40 applies for the use of the shower.

Facilities/activities including transport to the estuary for small boats, kayaks and canoes are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Excellent rural location with beautiful views. Laid back campsite, great rope swings for the kids on the bottom field. Hot showers and great washing up facilities. Farm shop was an added bonus too as the campsite is few miles from the nearest shop. Compost toilets were emptied frequently and kept stocked up of paper etc, plenty of hand wash and clean towels in the Powder Room.

Our stay at wilton farm was absolutely magical! Watching the sun go down over the beautiful view of Salcombe harbour, whilst putting another log on the fire was just too perfect for words. The compost toilets were decked out with solar lights and always smelled of fresh pine shavings. The showers were warm and comfortable. Nobody was camped on top of one another and everyone was very respectful of each other. The pub was a close walk, the honesty shop had everything we needed. Paul was the most brilliant host with a clear respect for his land as well as his guests. We can highly recommend this campsite.

The site was very rural and had a very laid back atmosphere, with incredible views of the surrounding area. There was plenty of space with a number of different fields to choose from and it was good to see that families could let there kids play freely and dogs were very welcome too. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Local attractions

What a honking amount of things there are to see and do in the South Hams for holidaymakers of all flavours – coastal connoisseurs, book buffs, fisherfolk, foodies, watersporters, scenery seekers, history hunters, wildlife watchers and canny kids all trot to these parts for a slice of what they fancy.

The coast is only a couple of miles away with miles of sandy beaches to pick from, but the Wilton Farm team recommends Mill Bay and Fisherman’s Cove, both scenically inspiring options for south Devon writer Agatha Christie. Nearby Salcombe is the spot for sailing, with surfing, kiteboarding and surf lessons available at Bantham about eight miles along the coast.

Nature trailers can start out straight from the site, with birdwatching and wildlife watching close to hand too from the lookout spots of Slapton Ley, a National Nature Reserve around the biggest natural lake in the south west: look out for the cirl bunting, once almost extinct, as well as dormice, badgers, bats and otters.

More of a history hunter? Ask the Wilton Farm lot for local tales of ghosts and famous inhabitants of the area, or drive down to Slapton Sands behind Slapton Ley, where the D-Day landings were practised (spot the recovered Sherman tank at Torcross).
