General

  • South Devon farm site with spectacular views
  • Slipway access to launch small boats, canoes and kayaks
  • Wooded glade, barbecues and farm shop

The laidback owners of Wilton Farm, just outside Kingsbridge in south Devon, very much like their local landscape. They've been living in the area for over 50 years, but resolutely say they'll never tire of looking at the glorious views from their farm.

After a peek at the site pics (go on), you'll probably a) agree and b) have envy. Wilton Farm is on eight acres of land, with splendidly spectacular scenes across the site to Salcombe and to the local village of South Pool, all tucked into South Hams countryside a couple of miles from the – also highly scenic – Devon coast.

And there's messing around in boats. One of the Wilton Farm family's fave places on site is the good-looking and chilled-out glade where guests can go to relax – right next to the farm's own slipway access where lucky ducks with their own vessels can launch canoes, kayaks or small boats onto the estuary (use the 'special requests' box to ask about bringing your small boat when you book). You might now heave an envious sigh...

Wilton Farm has toilet and shower facilities available on site. As it's a working farm, Wilton has stacks of fresh tasty produce to sell in its shop, and a barbecue area on site too to sizzle up a storm. Another envious sigh...

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Facilities/activities including transport to the estuary for small boats, kayaks and canoes are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

A charge of £0.40 applies for the use of shower.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Great location with beautiful surrounding country side, friendly accommodating staff on hand with a late check in. Lovely warm showers and farm shop on site. Ideally located for boat launching with a tidal slipway, on the door step of Salcombe Bay harbour. Would recommend to any one looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The view, the open expanse. The farm shop. The wonderful owner who went out of his way to get us a new bottle of gas when we ran out. The walks and cycle rides to the beach and all the surrounding area.

    Disliked:

Narrow road to the farm was pretty hairy in a massive motor home. But worth it.

From the manager...

Thank you for your kind review. Really glad you enjoyed the view, our field and farm shop :)

We are sorry that you had difficulty getting here. We hope this doesn't put you off coming back to Wilton. Devon is renowned for its windy, narrow roads but we can honestly say we've never had any problem here in more than 50 years of farming here. We have all sorts of vehicle come safely on to our farm every day and hope you may come again to enjoy this beautiful part of the country. .

Lovely campsite in the most magical of areas. Pitches are spread out so even in the height of August we had plenty of privacy. The facilities are very well maintained, I am a fan of a compost toilet so it didn't bother me, I know some people aren't keen but they are meticulously cleaned several times a day and the hot showers are great. South Pool is a short walk away and has a great pub if you don't fancy cooking. Plus the views are great!

We loved the venue. Stunning walks in the countryside and down to the coast. Great views of the countryside from campsite and everyone was very polite and welcoming. Wildlife around the farm as well. Fire pits available. Peaceful.

    Disliked:

Wash rooms could be slightly better but it's part of camping.

From the manager...

Thanks for your very kind review here. Glad that you enjoyed the campsite and also got out to see the stunning countryside on our doorstep. It is just such a wonderful area to explore.

We do our very best to keep the washrooms clean and tidy for our guests and we will be keeping on top of this. Thank you for your feedback.

Thanks again and please feel free to come back again anytime.

Local attractions

What a honking amount of things there are to see and do in the South Hams for holidaymakers of all flavours – coastal connoisseurs, book buffs, fisherfolk, foodies, watersporters, scenery seekers, history hunters, wildlife watchers and canny kids all trot to these parts for a slice of what they fancy.

The coast is only a couple of miles away with miles of sandy beaches to pick from, but the Wilton Farm team recommend Mill Bay and Fisherman’s Cove, both scenically inspiring options for south Devon writer Agatha Christie. Nearby Salcombe is the spot for sailing, with surfing, kiteboarding and surf lessons available at Bantham about eight miles along the coast.

Nature trailers can start out straight from the site, with birdwatching and wildlife watching close to hand too from the lookout spots of Slapton Ley, a National Nature Reserve around the biggest natural lake in the south-west: look out for the cirl bunting, once almost extinct, as well as dormice, badgers, bats and otters.

More of a history hunter? Ask the Wilton Farm lot for local tales of ghosts and famous inhabitants of the area, or drive down to Slapton Sands, behind Slapton Ley, where the D-Day landings were practised (spot the recovered Sherman tank at Torcross).
