General

  • South Devon farm site with spectacular views
  • Slipway access to launch small boats, canoes and kayaks
  • Wooded glade, barbecues and farm shop

The laidback owners of Wilton Farm just outside Kingsbridge in south Devon very much like their local landscape. They've been living in the area for over 50 years, but resolutely say they'll never tire of looking at the glorious views from their farm: after a peek at the site pics (go on), you'll probably a) agree and b) have envy…

Wilton Farm is on eight acres of land, with splendidly spectacular scenes across the site to Salcombe and to the local village of South Pool, all tucked into South Hams countryside a couple of miles from the – also highly scenic – Devon coast.

And there's messing around in boats here too. One of the Wilton Farm family's fave places on site is the good-looking glade where guests can go to relax – right next to the farm's own slipway access where lucky ducks with their own vessels can launch canoes, kayaks or small boats onto the estuary (use the 'special requests' box to ask about bringing your small boat when you book). You might now heave an envious sigh…

As it's a working farm, Wilton has stacks of fresh tasty produce to sell in its shop, and a barbecue area on site too to sizzle up a storm. Another envious sigh…

Lovely site, quiet and tucked away location. Lots of toilets and hot showers. Walking distance to a pub. Amazing views. Loved the eco focus and the farmer was awesome. The honesty shop had great produce and really nice to be able to pop in any time when we had forgotten something. Would definitely return.

    Disliked:

Nowhere to disposes of general rubbish, had to take away/home (not a problem for a night but may be for longer stays).

    Beautiful site
    Stunning views
    Friendly owners and campers
    Handy farm shop
Compost toilets were fine (but could do with more)
Fantastic location- quiet area but within driving distance of lovely places to visit

    Disliked:

    Facilities:
    - Not enough washing up facilities and these were uncomfortable to use as low & water comes out on your feet :)
    - Could do with more taps for fresh water
    - Not enough waste/ recycling facilities and they are located near entrance which is impractical - I understand some of this was due to covid but it would be good for campers to sort the waste where the washing up facilities are so that you can maximise recycling at the point of use

Local attractions

What a honking amount of things there are to see and do in the South Hams for holidaymakers of all flavours – coastal connoisseurs, book buffs, fisherfolk, foodies, watersporters, scenery seekers, history hunters, wildlife watchers and canny kids all trot to these parts for a slice of what they fancy.

The coast is only a couple of miles away with miles of sandy beaches to pick from, but the Wilton Farm team recommends Mill Bay and Fisherman’s Cove, both scenically inspiring options for south Devon writer Agatha Christie. Nearby Salcombe is the spot for sailing, with surfing, kiteboarding and surf lessons available at Bantham about eight miles along the coast.

Nature trailers can start out straight from the site, with birdwatching and wildlife watching close to hand too from the lookout spots of Slapton Ley, a National Nature Reserve around the biggest natural lake in the south west: look out for the cirl bunting, once almost extinct, as well as dormice, badgers, bats and otters.

More of a history hunter? Ask the Wilton Farm lot for local tales of ghosts and famous inhabitants of the area, or drive down to Slapton Sands behind Slapton Ley, where the D-Day landings were practised (spot the recovered Sherman tank at Torcross).
