Torre View Farm: Quiet and peaceful

General

  • Spacious site on a working farm five minutes' drive from Kingsbridge
  • A 15-minute drive from the coast and half an hour from Dartmoor
  • Back to basics pitches with easy access from the A381

Splendid countryside views without the need to negotiate lots of narrow little country lanes – that’s the highly appealing deal at Devon’s Torre View Farm. This quiet site is part of a working beef farm within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (that’s the views sorted) in a handy spot just off the A381 (there’s your easy access).

You’ll get a good serving of peaceful rural space at this friendly site, which is a straightforward five minutes’ drive from Kingsbridge (making it painless to pop out for dinner or hit the supermarkets to pick up bits for a barbecue back at base).

The provisions on site are pretty simple: there are no shower facilities here but there’s a septic tank for grey water and toilet waste, and guests can access natural spring water from a tap (it’s untested though so it’s advisable to boil or treat it before drinking it). Although there are no toilets by the pitches, guests can use an outdoor toilet up at the main house.

When it comes time to head out from your pitch, several choices present themselves: head inland for walks on local lanes or up on Dartmoor, aim south for beach times in Salcombe or strolls on the South West Coast Path, take a day out in Plymouth or hit family attractions like Woodlands Family Theme Park.

Please note

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Unfortunately couldn’t find the site. No signs that we could see and map took us down a steep narrow road that ended with a road closure and after reversing up the muddy slippery narrow road decided to give up and sadly stay in Premier inn at Plymouth.

The host was very helpful. It was very peaceful for those wanting to get away from any crowds (we were the only ones staying)

    Disliked:

It would benefit from a separate toilet / shower block away from the house.
I felt it was quite expensive £23 - for a stretch of grass by the side of the track into the farm. Very narrow lane to the site ( although what you expect in Devon)

Very quiet idyllic farm site. As is what is advertised and I got to enjoy it all on my own. Water tap and toilet only on site. I have my own facilities and solar so it’s no issue for me. Saw lots of lovely wildlife.
Hosts were very welcoming and friendly. I booked very last minute (half hour before arriving) and stayed for 2 nights. Very accommodating!

Nothing related to the site, but just be aware of the short narrow lane approaching the village/site. My van just fit.

Local attractions

You’ll no doubt be swinging by at some point anyway, so make a plan to have a bit of a wander in Kingsbridge (five minutes’ drive) while you’re there, dropping in to the Cookworthy Museum and getting arty at the town’s galleries.

Keep going south and you’ll hit the coast before too long, whether you aim for the beaches and watersports of Salcombe (15 minutes) or the wilder shoreline of Slapton Sands (25 minutes), flanked by a nature reserve. If you’re headed to the first of these, aim to get over to the gorgeous gardens and Edwardian home at Overbeck’s, just on the south side of town.

Other coastal options include day trips to Dartmouth (25 minutes) for strolls round the castle and harbour, or Plymouth (40 minutes), home to an aquarium, a gin distillery and the historic Plymouth Hoe.

Frankly, one could spend many a day/week simply exploring the coast around here, but sensible sorts will want to take a bit of time inland too: Dartmoor National Park is a mere half-hour’s drive away for long walks or trips to the zoo, and the rides and animal attractions of Woodlands Family Theme Park 15 minutes away.

Must see

  • Dartmoor Zoological Park (11.5 miles)
  • Paignton Zoo Environmental Park (11.8 miles)
  • Buckfast Abbey (12.5 miles)

National Trust

  • Overbeck's (6.2 miles)
