  • Small dog-friendly back to basics site in the South Hams
  • A half-hour walk to Hope Cove; 10 minutes' drive to Salcombe
  • West-facing pitches with sea views for spectacular sunsets
Hill Top View is a small pop-up site in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, about 10 minutes’ drive from Kingsbridge and a mile from the coast at Hope Cove. When they say ‘view’ here, they’re certainly not lying – this slightly elevated spot looks out over gorgeous scenery of green fields, with the sea just behind (and you might spot Dartmoor off in the distance on a fine day too). Pitches face west, so you’re likely to be treated to some spectacular sunsets while you’re here. It’s all about peaceful, stripped-back stays here: the site is based on a field belonging to a local arable farmer, with just a small number of pitches. You’ll need to be fairly self-sufficient for a stay here, as there are no facilities to speak of: this spot has no toilets, waste disposal or drinking water available. Barbecues are permitted to help with your self-catering – pick up supplies at the farm shop five minutes’ drive away, or over in Kingsbridge. Need just a little hand to get going in the mornings? The site owner can organise a takeout breakfast to be delivered to your pitch if you like. Presumably you’ve not come all this way just to look at the sea from a distance? Getting down to the coast is pretty straightforward: pick up a local footpath and you can stroll down to Hope Cove in about half an hour. Join the South West Coast Path once you’re there for a great day walking round to Salcombe, or head straight there with a 10-minute drive for beach days and watersports.

Non-electric earth tent pitch

Liked: Remoteness, wild camping style.

Disliked: No facilities, but that was explained in description. Could do with a few bins though as a minimum to discard of rubbish.
