Electric grass pitch
Liked: We had the site pretty much to ourselves so it was incredibly peaceful. Had a lovely welcome from the hosts with all the instructions on where to pitch and where all the facilities were. The site is easy to find not to far of the beaten track but rural enough to feel like you’re miles from anywhere. Toilets and showers are clean and tidy with plenty of hot water (even if the water pressure is not great).
Disliked: Unfortunately the drainage in the showers is rather slow so you end up standing in a little puddle towards the end. Water pressure is low.

From the manager: Good morning . Thank you for camping here at Boveys Down and now well rested. The water is from our own spring & well which is pumped 200m up the hill into storage ( filtered and UV in the system) It will always be lower pressure than perhaps you are used to if on a mains supply. I will get the team to pressure wash the shower outlets to hopefully improve drainage. We have to regularly do this as gets clogged up with frequent use. We look forward to seeing you here again and maybe you could get the chance to enjoy what else is here in the Swallows Rest. Gerald & Pam.

Liked: Very friendly and helpful, great facilities that were clean, we liked the barn area where you could get food and the bar served local cider at a reasonable price. Campsite had great views over the hills and we felt it was great value for money.
Disliked: The only thing that disappointed was the fire pit we ordered at an extra cost. The wood supplied was so wet all we could really do was send smoke signals.

From the manager: Good morning. Thank you so much for takin g the time to review your stay. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Very sorry about the logs, they should not have been wet ! Quite possibly a lid blew off when stored ready for campers to collect. But for future info it would be advisable to come back down to where you collected them and asked a member of the team for a different lot, and we would happily change so you can have a pleasant fire going & toast those marshmallows in comfort. We hope to see you back here again soon. P & G .

Liked: The campsite was well located for visiting local sites, the coast and towns and also had lovely views across the valley. Nice spacious and level pitches at the top of the site. Shower block was basic but clean and we never had to wait despite the campsite being seemingly busy. Enjoyed having a drink in the restaurant/bar - nice place to pop in and sit. The owners were very friendly and the campsite general had a relaxed informal atmosphere which is what we liked.
Disliked: We were pitched close to the road which could be a bit noisy at times, but this wouldn't put us off staying again.

Disliked: Toilets inadequate. Pitches uneven and rutted. No easy access to walks in the area apart from walking along a busy road. Rude staff on arrival. Won’t be returning

From the manager: Good evening. Thank you for taking the time to review your very brief one night stay here. I do believe you didn't discover all the toilets and showers as the number is totally adequate for the campers on site. Your welcome letter would have explained some would be in the shower / toilet block with 24/7 lighting & others in the Swallows rest barn and finally with the accessible / parent and baby change room in the area of the marque and commercial kitchen. The pitches have suffered with the extreme weather we have had to cope with but as we had several spare pitches when you were here moving was an option.. The check in / tea room has a multitude of maps for walks and there are in fact several that are down country lanes and no need to attempt walking on a busy road. 5 minutes up the road by car takes you to the nature reserve, frequented by many of our returning or new campers. It seems our site is not for you, 3pm to 7pm checking in time. I must note that thankfully none of our staff are rude, possibly you spoke to someone who has English as 2cd language therefore understanding each other may have been a problem.
Fully enjoyed our stay.

Liked: There was a lovely restaurant and bar at the bottom of the campsite where you could also get ice creams etc. The toilet / shower facilities were clean and tidy along with the washing up area. There is a little toy garage outside the restaurant and rope swings in the trees for the kids. Nice little quiet campsite with lovely owners.

Liked: A very well maintained, small campsite. Clean facilities, very friendly owners and a hidden gem. I will definitely be booking again. The rope swing was an added bonus and a big hit with all of the kids staying here.
