  • Small, family-friendly campsite on the Devon/Cornwall border
  • A 30-minute drive to The Big Sheep, and 40 to Dartmoor National Park
  • Farm shop with a food service; beaches, fishing and kids’ parks nearby
A small, family-run campsite in a quiet rural location, Tree Tops is surrounded by gorgeous countryside and has far-reaching views to Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor. Situated on the border of Devon and Cornwall, this is a smashing base for anyone wishing to explore the West Country thoroughly. Pitches are fully serviced and provide a 16-amp electric hook up, fresh drinking water, a grey-water point for piped waste, and a water tap. Each pitch is at least eight metres in width and there’s hedging between each one so your stay here will be totally private. The local town of Bude (20 minutes’ drive) has lots of indie shops and surf rentals. Here you can treat the family to fish and chips or a traditional Cornish pasty on the beach, or eat in one of the many cafés, pubs and restaurants. Closer to home, Upper Tamar Lake (30 minutes’ walk) is well stocked with carp and bream for anglers, and there’s a watersports centre as well as a scenic walk around the reservoir. Lower Tamar Lake is a nature reserve that's home to lots of wildfowl, with several peaceful paths around its shore line. Back at base, there’s a shop for essentials and picnic sandwiches ingredients. You can also order continental breakfasts (handy for your day of departure) and cream tea treats for an extra charge – just remember that, as this is Devon, you’ll need to put the cream on your scone ahead of the jam.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch (no awning, small)

Liked: Quiet, peaceful site with good sized pitches. A lot of seasonal caravans occupying a lot of the touring pitches though. Jo and Craig are super helpful. It had rained relentlessly for weeks so the place and surrounding area were waterlogged.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch (medium, no awning)

Liked: All services on the pitch . Really quite spot with the birds starting to sing in the morning on the hedges between the pitches. Pitches had individual solar lighting. Good to see toilet/shower blocks being built. Really easy access to Devon and Cornwall coastal walks.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch (medium, no awning)

Liked: Treetops is a wonderful site. Jo & Craig are a lovely couple and are continually doing works to make it even better (if that’s possible). Very secluded pitches of a good size and level. Lovely views and great walks straight off the site. Will be back for sure in the Summer.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch (XL)

Liked: Loved this site. Situated off the main road but very easy to find if you follow the owners directions in their welcome pack, very precise and informative, easy to follow and extremely helpful. Pitches are on the level and well maintained. Hedges around the fully serviced pitches made them very private and all of the pitches were very spacious. No traffic noise. Site is dog and child friendly. Currently need to be self sufficient as no on site toilets/showers but owners are in the process of adding these so hopefully available in 2024. Within walking distance of Tamar Lakes and close to a variety of places along the North Devon and Cornwall coast. The site is very sheltered and we hardly noticed the storms and high winds of December 2023. Can highley recommend this site as an ideal base for a whole host of activities within easy distance.

Disliked: We have nothing negative to say about this site.

Liked: Privacy and access to all facilities en-pitch. Shop onsite for the fundamentals. Jo was very attentive and friendly. Beautiful area, right next to Tamar lakes and oodles of blackberries 😋

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch (XL)

Liked: The private feeling with the hedges around the pitches.

Disliked: WiFi and mobile data are impossible to get any signal for, which we found difficult when trying to watch a movie in the evenings. However I do understand this is not just an issue from the site That particular area has no signal at all from any provider.

Liked: This is a beautiful, tranquil site. Peaceful, private and does exactly what you need it to do. Jo was very helpful when our charger unit decided to pack up and gave us the name of a local chap who fixed that very same day. This site will grow as it gets older and more established, we would definitely visit and stay again. 5 out 5 !!

Local attractions

Jump to it, surfing bods – there are numerous surfing and bodyboarding beaches including Sandymouth Bay (15 minutes' driv) and Widemouth Bay (20 minutes). If surfing ain’t for you, try kayaking or rent a pedalo at Bude beach (20 minutes), have a go on a Segway (15 minutes) or book a pony trek through forest at the local riding centre (20 minutes). There are some seriously cutesy coastal towns and villages on Devon's north coast. For indie shops and steep cobbled streets, head for Clovelly (25 minutes), or try Boscastle (35 minutes) for pretty harbour views. At Tintagel (45 minutes) there are fab sea views from its mysterious castle – and you’ll find plenty of foodie options in all these places too. As a treat for well-behaved kids, there are family rollercoasters at The Milky Way Adventure Park (25 minutes), sheep racing (yes, that’s right) at The Big Sheep (30 minutes), and a day’s worth of waterslides and inflatable courses at North Devon Wake Park (also 25 minutes).
