General

  • Family site within 30 minutes' drive of Bude's popular surfing beaches
  • A short drive from The Milky Way and The Big Sheep
  • Coarse fishing lakes, play area, pets' corner and bar

Just look at those lush, lush lakes... anglers will be in fishy heaven at Thornbury Holiday Park.

As will pretty much all sorts of guests whatever their age or holiday inclination: the park's a short drive from the sand and surf of Bude as well as within easy reach of all manner of Devon and Cornwall highlights... and is in splendid setting with spectacular countryside views all around; do see pics.

This leafy and rightly popular family park is set across almost nine acres has two well-stocked coarse fishing lakes for fisherfolk to cast off at; after that, you can wander over to the bar to pick from the wide range of wine, beer and hot drinks. Live bands, bingo and themed food evenings are held in high season.

Kids are well sorted too, with an outdoor play area, loads of green space to run about in, and a pets' corner which the Thornbury team reckons is a must-see. Kids may also care to know that two family amusement parks (The Milky Way) and The Big Sheep are around half an hour's drive away...

The park's excellently-maintained amenities include a launderette and a modern sanitary block with toilets and hot showers, both open 24 hours a day.

Hen and duck eggs are available year round in the site's honesty box.

Good, small, quiet site, clean facilities and friendly staff. 28/08/2018

Good location at the border of Devon and Cornwall. Very friendly hosts. Facilities kept very clean. Small bar on site if you fancy a change of scenery. Good walks for the dog around the site and a field for running them off the lead. Free range geese, ducks and chickens plus rabbits on site for children. Fishing was popular with others on site.

    Disliked:

Extremely small number of pitches, so if you want electric get in quick!
Nowhere to empty waste water. This needs addressing.
Free range animals i.e. Goats and Pigs were no longer there. If I had brought the grand children on that basis they would have been disappointed.

From the manager...

Hi Sharon, we do have a chemical disposal area on site for waste water. I'm sorry that you didn't get to use it.
Kind regards
Lisa

The site was situated in a small village in Devon right by the border to Cornwall, very quiet surroundings but close enough to local shops and activities.
Only a 20 minute drive to Bude the closest beach, beautiful beach and coast line perfect for families and surfers.
Loved the campsite owners, very friendly and helpful, campsite wasn't too big so everything was close by, toilets and showers were always clean.
There were also lodges on site as well as tent pitches all the families staying there were friendly and the kids played together in the large grassy areas.

The welcome and friendliness of Lisa Paul and Meg is like you are part of tbe family .
The heating had been swithed on for our stay and one day they also made us a cup o soup and rought it down to us .. how nice was that .The fishing was slow but recent weather can be attributed to that .

    Disliked:

Believe a shower curtain would be a better to have in Walnut bungalow as the screen allows water to end up on the floor .

Very quiet as only van on site.
    Very clean
    Clubhouse very welcoming

    Disliked:

Pitches could have been a little more level and had a water point two each pitch.
Some work could be done on the drainage as some places were rather boggy ( although we have had a lot of wet weather ). No WiFi

Local attractions

Stay close to base or head out on a day trip around Devon and Cornwall: there's enough to do around here to keep you busy for weeks.

A 25-minute drive just over the Cornish border will land you at the three spectacular sandy beaches of Bude (Summleaze, Crooklets and Sandy Mouth), famed particularly for their surfing but also a top spot for sea fishing and for family sandy days. A grassy play park is behind Bude's tourist information centre if you're in town with the kids, and a splendid pirate play area is at Crooklets beach.

If you're feeling especially energetic (and aren't on hol with kids), take the South West Coast Path from Bude for a hike of almost 10 miles to Crackington Haven , or – strong legs and disposition very much required – the 15 or so miles from Bude to Hartland Quay. For gentler strolls (if you're on hol with the kids), take the easy saunters along the towpath of the Bude Canal, or get cracking on the Bude Mystery Treasure Trail following the canal to the RNLI Lifeboat House via Bude Castle.

Other top spots include the privately owned village of Clovelly (40 minutes' drive); the Museum of Witchcraft at Boscastle (45 minutes), and swashbuckling with King Arthur's lot at Tintagel, 55 minutes away.

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (9.5 miles)
  • Castle Drogo (23.6 miles)
  • Tintagel Castle (23.8 miles)

National Trust

  • Lawrence House (14.8 miles)
  • Lydford Gorge (16.3 miles)
