Around the site

  • Peaceful and secluded farm site with views of Dartmoor
  • Over 30 acres of farmland with woodland walks from the site
  • Wildlife haven: spot red and roe deer, badgers and buzzards
Searching for a Devon getaway close to the beach and to Dartmoor and where the whole family is welcome? Look no longer… make tracks for Hollocombe Hideaway, a family- and dog-friendly site half an hour’s drive from the coast at Widemouth Bay and with views of Dartmoor from the grounds. The site covers over 30 acres of woodland, including woodland walks where the owners regularly spot red deer, roe deer and the resident sett of badgers. The tall trees next to the site stream are home to buzzards that frequently soar overhead. Off site, the farm’s setting down a quiet country lane five minutes from Hollacombe and Holsworthy is in rural countryside with walks along fields starting directly from the grounds. It’s 15 miles from the farm to the sands of Widemouth Bay, for sunbathing, swimming and lunches or afternoon tea at the nearby cafés as well as picnics at the secluded bays along the coast from here. Just along the bay from Widemouth is a beach where dogs are allowed all year round. The site’s also within easy reach (25 minutes’ drive) of the seaside resort of Bude, with its wide sandy beaches gently sloping to the sea. Bude beaches are lifeguarded in high season and are a popular destination for family surfing as surf schools offer lessons and kit hire. Inland, Dartmoor is half an hour’s drive away and Tavistock with its weekly markets, art galleries, museum and independent shops is within 45 minutes.

Liked Natasha. We loved Natasha! She made what was a very hard time for my family, an easier happier time. She spent time with our children, they saw the animals and nothing was to much trouble! It’s a beautiful clean site with spectacular views. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Disliked Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Everything was perfect

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Well what can I say….breathtaking and impeccable views - animals in a wide open rural countryside setting gets full marks from us. Perfect in every way. “Escape to the Wilderness”, exactly. (Phone signal is great tho)

Natasha and Adrian work so hard to keep it spotless which was evident from the outset.

The camping field/pitches are open and spaced out. Lots of space for kids playing with a climbing frame/swings also.

The facilities were always clean and accessible, no spiders are a huge plus. There were added extras available from their quirky cafe - hot drinks, breakfast, snacks and knick-knacks.

Natasha and Adrian go above and beyond and were non-stop throughout the day seeing to all the guests and prepping for the new arrivals.

Their animals - dogs, sheep, chickens, goats, ducks, Millie the calf and Eclipse/neighbouring horses were very popular with us.

Thanks so so much for making our stay this memorable and we will definitely return.

Wishing you all the very best both.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely view, lots of space, and a very friendly owner.

Disliked Not much shade, we were concerned to see fires burning in braziers on the site during a very hot dry summer. Two days later the government banned such!

Local attractions

If your holidays are incomplete without a beach day or two, you'll be well chuffed with this location. The site is 25 minutes’ drive from the nearest beach (Summerleaze, in Bude), and other sandy stretches at Crooklets and Sandymouth Bay are within half an hour; all three are good picks for surfing, sea fishing, swims and sandy strolls. When a break from sea, surf and (perhaps) sun is needed, stick around Bude to wander along the canal towpaths, call in at the castle – where there’s a history museum and art gallery – or have a taste tour (self guided) of the town’s many eateries. Days in urban environs aren’t limited to Bude either… There are plenty of scenic villages worth exploring up and down the coast, none more so than the privately owned, blessedly car free and most pretty cobblestoned village of Clovelly, 40 minutes from base. Nature-filled hours are a cinch hereabouts too: the site is 35 minutes from the edge of Dartmoor National Park and – for a bit more order – RHS Garden Rosemoor is within half an hour. A little stuffy for younger tastes? It’s 20 minutes’ drive to the Gnome Reserve and Wildlife Garden in West Putford.
