  • Family-friendly countryside site 30 minutes’ walk from Exmouth beach
  • A 25-minute drive from Crealy Adventure Park and 30 from Exeter
  • A few metres from a watersports centre and the river Exe
What do you picture when you think of your fantasy hols? If it’s beaches, stately houses and coastal walks through dinosaur country, then scurry over to Prattshayes Campsite (a green-field site 35 minutes’ drive from Exeter in Devon) to live your dream. Prattshayes Campsite is a top spot for venturing out around country and coast: three-mile-long Exmouth beach is a 30-minute walk from the site and it feeds into the Jurassic Coast at Orcombe Point 15 minutes down the beach. You can see more of the Devon coastline by picking up the 630-mile South West Coast Path at Exmouth beach, or following the Exe Estuary trail from Exmouth to Exeter and over to Dawlish. More of a water-based creature? Exmouth Watersports – where you can try out windsurfing, paddleboarding and kayaking on the river Exe – is very close, or you could stick to Exmouth beach for some swimming and basking. Back on site, reward yourself for all your hard work by firing up the barbecue, piling it high with calories (pick up supplies from Exmouth, less than 10 minutes’ drive away) and tuck in before heading over to the on-site bar to wash it all down. If you’d prefer to venture off site for your dinner, there are plenty of restaurants worth trying within 10 minutes.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked Large pitches, sited only a short walk from the beach in open countryside. A family friendly and welcoming site with an excellent shower block that is well maintained and clean.

Disliked It would have been good to have one or two more plug sockets for those camping in tents to charge phones.

Liked Charming site/setting
Enclosed (closed gate to road)
Bar and ping pong on site
Great toilet/shower facilities

Disliked Sewage smell sometimes
Loud groups in nearby pitches
Low shower pressure

Maximum 7.5 meters electric grass pitch

Liked Great location - an easy bike or walk into Exmouth
Lovely rural surroundings
Friendly service
New toilet and showering facilities with high levels of cleanliness

Disliked Unpleasant smell (sometimes overwhelming) of sewage. There is a sewage treatment plant nearby. Despite the many positives of the site, this would prevent me from considering staying here again
The showers (there are 8) can't cope with all being in use at the same time - the water stops or reduces to a dwindle

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. South West Water have become a thorn in our side. The smell can be and normally is contained but for some reason this has not been the case in the past week. Rest assured they have been contacted with an official complaint which also includes our camper complaints (camper complaints being anonymous).
The shower pressure is being addressed, we are just awaiting on the plumbers.
Please don't let this put you off coming to stay with us.

Local attractions

Start your stay at Prattshayes Campsite by sticking close to site, as there’s loads nearby to keep you (and the whole fam) busy. Head into Exmouth for the Exmouth Museum, then venture a little further out for the World of Country Life park, Hawkridge Bird of Prey Centre, Bicton Park Botanical Gardens and the weird and wonderful 16-sided National Trust property A la Ronde, all less than 15 minutes’ drive from the site. A la Ronde whetting your appetite for history and stately piles? Fab Powderham Castle is just over half an hour from Prattshayes Campsite, and is open for tours and lots of special events. If that’s still not quite enough, the museums, underground passages and cathedral of Exeter (worth a visit for shopping and food too) are also a little over half an hour from the site. If you have kids in tow starting to protest about the walk down (centuries-old) memory lane, there’s oodles nearby to get them back on side… Start 20 minutes away with some go-karting to blow off steam, get their adrenaline pumping on the rides at Crealy Adventure Park (25 minutes), then pile them into the car for a jaunt to Paignton Zoo, less than an hour away.
