  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Well kept touring park with excellent pitches. Adult only campsite made it ideal for those wanting a relaxing break. Dog friendly campsite is another bonus for dog lovers. The shop had virtually everything needed foodwise etc and the games room yet another bonus with free pool table. Spotlessly clean toilet block with hot shower.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked I liked the cleanliness of site and the pitches. Also dog pen.

Disliked I disliked the fact that there were no walks from site without going on the road as it was very busy and quite dangerous as a pedestrian. I was lucky to go to the site off season as I think 3 toilets and 3 showers would not be enough if the site was full.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. However we do feel that 6/10 is harsh considering that your dislike was the walks from the site (not the actual site, just the walks.) were along roads/lanes. We send you all of the information about the campsite and the local area including walks to you before you arrive. With regards to the toilets and showers, we actually have more than is required. We are sorry that we disappointed you however we are pleased to see that we can't have been that bad as you would recommend us to friends.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Stayed here end of August. This is, without doubt, just about the cleanest sites we have ever stayed at.
Incredibly well organised, quiet and with fantastic access to local attractions and amenities.
People obviously return again and again and for all the right reasons.
The thought that has gone into planning and running this site is amazing! Kept spotting clever features all the time.
We WILL be back!

Chris and Wendy Barnett, Hawkhurst,

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
