  • Small family-run site on a smallholding in Dartmoor National Park
  • Close to River Teign and Two Moors Way; 25 minutes' drive to Exeter
  • Simple pitches with well-kept facilities, plus play area and hammocks
Three Hares Campsite is a small family-run site in the Dartmoor National Park, part of a 25-acre smallholding run by friendly Chinnie and Henry. Simple, secluded and scenic – that’s the style of this little Devon site full of wildflowers and trees and bordering a little stream. It’s got hammocks set up in the willow trees and a small play area with a tree swing for the kids, and welcomes barbecues and campfires (as long as they’re kept off the ground). There’s also fab farm shop five minutes' drive away for top-notch sausages and local veg to grill. There’s much to do in the surrounding area, whether you’re planning hikes on the Two Moors Way, bike rides on the Wray Valley Trail or Granite Way, kayaking, swimming and climbing around the River Teign or simply sampling all the Devon cream teas you can possibly manage. Exeter’s about a 25-minute drive away for a city fix, and you can get to beach days within about 40 minutes. This is a simple and eco-friendly site but all the necessary facilities are in place: guests have access to fresh water, hot (and strong) showers, flushing toilets, a chemical waste point and a lovely timber-framed washing-up area. Sorry, but no dogs are allowed on site as it has sheep for neighbours.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely small stream side field, so quiet. Great clean wcs, showers, wash up facilities and several drinking water stand pipes. I only stayed a night but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Hot sun until 9pm also added to a great evening. Lots of local information on boards at reception. Such good value at £15

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: This is a lovely site, in beautiful surroundings. There is plenty of space, and it would make a great place for children to explore. The electric pitches are allocated in advance, but if you don't need the hook-up, you can camp where you like (within reason!), includingf next to the stream. The showers and toiletsf are spotless. I really liked this site and will definitely be going back. It's not far off the A30, so pretty easy to get to. It was also really reasonably priced, at a time when campsite prices are going through the roof! As others have noted, there is virtually no phone signal. I don't think this is necessarily a disadvantage - it's good to disconnect sometimes. If you're desperate for wifi, the library in Okehampton has very good free wifi.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Convenient. Super relaxed. small site which is good. Lovely location. Excellent facilities if a little tired. Would use again. Couple of excellent pubs and beauty spots within walking distance - drew arms, wonderful community pub and Fingle bridge inn, lovely spot. All in all, a good place to stop.
