Golden Sands Holiday Park: Camping pod

General

  • Family park a short stroll from the seaside town of Dawlish Warren
  • Daily entertainment, adventure play and restaurant facilities
  • Indoor and outdoor pool complexes, kids' club and dining area

You’ll strike gold with a family holiday or short break at Golden Sands Holiday Park, on the doorstep of some of Devon’s top scenic spots and family attractions, a short stroll away from famed Dawlish Warren beach and nature reserve… and with a goldmine of first-class facilities and entertainment on offer.

As it’s a Park Holidays site, Golden Sands is aimed towards making breaks as hassle-free as possible: the excellent amenities in this lush countryside location include heated indoor and outdoor pool complexes, a kids’ club, amusements and the Adventure Land Play Area. There's also a dining area and takeaway, a mini mart shop to pick up essentials, and a launderette and washing-up area for whoever you can bribe to do the chores.

The clubhouse has free wifi and Sky Sports; guests can also use the facilities at the other Park Holidays site nearby, Dawlish Sands, where there’s an entertainment venue with live acts in the evening as well as an indoor and outdoor pool.

Dawlish Warren and the area around Golden Sands are justifiably popular with families: the beach is safe and sandy, backed with pretty dunes, and packed with good old-fashioned seaside attractions: think fairground attractions, crazy golf and ice cream among more… and then there’s the nature reserve, and the spectacular short train journey along the seawall to Teignmouth (take the line in the other direction and it will bring you to the city lights of Exeter).

Pod was great. Good amount of space and great temperature for the time of year. Able to swim on the days that we wanted to, easy to book with reception.

    Disliked:

Facilities for the guests staying in Pods are very poor. No water pressure for washing hands and poor cleanliness in the showers.

Pod was excellent, really clean and spacious. Quiet spot, near to playpark, lovely outdoor space. Reception and site staff polite and v helpful. Pool spotlessly clean.

Toilet block is tired. Drainage and taps need replacing. They could do with lower down and shallower wash stands for kids.

The pod was fab. Table and chairs, comfy beds, mirror, electric sockets, lovely grass area infront of the pod too and parking next to it.
The pods are at the end of the park nearest to the exit to the beach. 10 min walk to the sand passing loads of shops and food/drinks etc.
Train station is next to the beach and was only £7 return for all 4 of us to Dawlish, which was a lovely day out.
The Dawlish Warren beach is beautiful. We walked through the dunes a bit further on and it was a bit quieter there which was nice.
Entertainment was good. On every night. Started at 6pm for the little kids. Dance tunes and games. Then bingo then adult entertainment.

We would go back again. Really enjoyed our stay

    Disliked:

    Sooooo many hills. Haha.
It was a hilly walk to the other end of the park where the reception/entertainment/pool/restaurant etc was.

Lovely camping pod, ideal for the three of us, close to the play park so our son could play close by.
Pod was clean and had what we needed, we also took a small event shelter which came in handy for cooking under.
    Location to Dawlish Warren.

    Disliked:

Be prepared toilets and shower blocks are grim! Despite being cleaned supposedly three times a day they were very tired and grubby. As a result we wouldn’t stay there again.

Local attractions

Dawlish Warren is a safe and clean family beach with all the old-fashioned activities kids will clamour for: Punch and Judy, amusements and crazy golf among the decorative dunes, as well as chuffing along the sea wall on the train journey to Teignmouth or wandering among the wildfowl and wading birds at the Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve.

Slightly further afield there are coastal resorts like Paignton and Torquay, cantering on horseback in Dartmoor National Park and exploring the gardens and history of Devon: the secret gardens of Powderham Castle will keep the kids enthralled, and they’ll also have a swashbuckling time at the Golden Hind, the replica of Sir Francis Drake’s 16th-century ship moored at Brixham.

Or you could just pack everyone up and head out of Golden Sands to see where your feet or pedals take you: this area of the country is renowned for its walking and cycling routes, whether you’re cruising along the coastline, foraging through forests, ambling through the area’s villages or making your way around spectacular Dartmoor.
