General

  • Tents-only, wild-style campsite in a private Devon woodland
  • A 15-minute drive from Teignmouth and the coast; 20 minutes to Exeter
  • Individual firepits, chef-staffed woodland kitchen and foraging walks

Pitch up in a peaceful woodland clearing near the south coast of Devon and treat yourself to spectacular views across the Ashcombe Valley.

Several beaches in nearby Teignmouth and Dawlish can be reached in under 20 minutes by car, plus you'll have access to chef-cooked meals from the site's woodland kitchen (please check in advance for opening times) and foraging walks to help you get closer to the local landscape. If you don't want to bring food, ask in advance for a local meat and vegetable delivery.

Ashcombe Woodland Campsite has well-maintained basic facilities including shared toilets and a washing-up space. There are also individual firepits provided for guests who like a bit of outdoor grilling, or you can bring your own barbecue. Off-road parking is available a short distance away from the pitches, which are surrounded by footpaths that you can follow through leafy woodlands. You'd also do well to bring bikes here for cycles down to the sea or around nearby Haldon Forest Park (15 minutes).

Two miles away, Ashcombe Adventure Centre has a wide range of activities you can get stuck into, including a huge clay pigeon area, off-road quad bikes, archery and paintball. Not much further afield you have Exeter (20 minutes) for shopping, sightseeing and exploring Devon's most visit-worthy urban corners.

Ashcombe Woodland Campsite operates on a leave-no-trace basis, so please take all your rubbish home with you.

This was my first time camping with children aged 10 and 12 and 2 small dogs. We borrowed a friend's tent and liked this site as was secluded and in a woodland. Great access to Teignmouth beach 20 mins drive away and gorgeous views. The site has good access to drive car right up. We adored the fire pits which are actually old washing machine drums.. with a baking tray and saucepan we were well away! Bacon on bread all round. There was a water tap nearby (not drinking water) and a portable loo 100 metres away which was clean and perfectly fine.. Nice a roomy also not one of those ones you can barely stand up in!
There was plenty wood and bracken around to burn so bring a saw and some fire lighters. The children loved collecting wood to light a fire and cook marshmallows.
We happened to stay the final night before the site closed for winter and had the whole site to ourselves. As a single woman with 2 children I did not feel in the least bit worried it felt all perfectly safe. The kitchen had already closed for year which we may have used if open.
Delighted with stay and would love to book to stay the first night it opens in spring as we were there on the last.
Thank you so much ashcombe camping. You made our summer. Great value for money and proves that money doesn't buy happiness. Best wishes hannah

Loved the pitches. There were great little fire pits made from repurposed washing machine drums. And plenty of dead wood to use as fule. I really loved the fact there were little grills to use as well.
There are no showers but they make that clear on the website when you book so its no issue for seasoned campers

Lovely calm time. Fred played with his new friends in the old fashioned way and forgot about his Nintendo and YouTube. Close to many beaches and social events but far enough away to rest.
