The elms static caravan

  • Peaceful Blackdown Hills site with two fishing lakes
  • 15 minutes from Taunton and 30 from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast
  • In a walkers' paradise: free maps of local trails available on site
This peaceful little site may take its name from the monarch’s honey wine, but these days it’s the food in the area that’s fit for a king: about 20 minutes' walk from the site is the Half Moon, serving fresh and traditional pub food with side order views over the Culm Valley. Kingsmead Centre is excellent territory too for ramblers, cyclists and equestrians, with free maps for all the nearby trails available on site – a local recommendation is the longer-distance Neroche Herepath. In a wooded vale in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Kingsmead also has two coarse fishing lakes which are exclusively reserved for guests’ use, and is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. The shower and toilet facilities are simple and clean, with no shortage of free hot water. Well-behaved pets are welcome on site.

The Oaks 2 bedroom static caravan (no pets)

Liked Nice space, tidy & clean.

Disliked Would have been nice if the bed was made before arrival. Provision of a tea towel would have been useful (or a note to say one should be brought from home). More transparency about the internet would have been appreciated. Very draughty so access to heating would have been nice. Booked use of a high chair but one was not provided.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. I'm sorry that your stay wasn't as good as you expected. Some of the issues that you mention were totally my fault -You did ask for me for the high chair and I completely forgot as we were so busy over the bank holiday. I can only apologise for my mistake. Likewise there should have been a tea towel in the caravan. If you had popped to reception we could have given you one. We would also have been happy to put the heating on for you, if we had known you were cold.

As for the internet, there is no hidden agenda on the charging, although I have messaged Pitchup.com to see whether we can make it clearer that it is not free. We only charge to cover the expensive costs of providing the wifi in our rural location but it is fast, reliable and covers the whole site including the remote woodland camping pitches. The most you will pay to connect is £1.50 per day, which we feel is affordable and acceptable for the service offered.

Once again, I'm sorry I overlooked your high chair but a visit to reception could have very quickly sorted all your issues and allowed you to enjoy your stay in comfort.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Absolutely loved the location, the pitches were well set apart for space and privacy. It was quiet after 9Pm which was delightful. The footpaths and site itself was beautiful, emersed in nature. The facilities were well done and clean, The shop was fabulous too! definately will come back again.

Disliked Only problem the toilet tissue ran out in one of the washroom areas, bins weren't emptied and the wash basins were out of order. But none of these things were an issue as the site was quiet, I suspect it could be a problem if there were lots of people in need.

From the manager: Thanks for your comments. Great to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately, one of the taps was broken over the weekend and we unable to get the correct replacement for a few days but there were more sinks available.in other areas. The taps are now all working.

As for the bins - these were only full as the collection lorry was a couple of days behind schedule due to the bank holiday

Meadow non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This was a trial weekend for me to see how I got on with solo camping.
Kingsmead was the perfect venue for me.
I was on the Meadow (no electric hook-ups) It's a lovely big space, and soooo quiet! You could see every star at night too 😊
There were essential facilities on the field - bins, water and portaloos which were perfectly ok (I was expecting festival conditions - these were clean!) But the permanent block was only a short walk away, with wet rooms (shower, toilet, basin-great idea) and a fridge/freezer.
I absolutely loved my stay and will certainly return.

Disliked Nothing

Electric grass pitch

Liked Pefect location!
Such a peaceful place to stay.
The owners are super friendly and even opened the shop late for us as we were running behind time.
They also helped us move our caravan and couldnt be any more helpful
The area is very quiet and has a friendly vibe and is the cleanest campsite we have ever stayed on.
Highly recommend stopping here, wish we had stayed longer.

Disliked nothing perfect stay
