General
- Eco-friendly glamping deep in the Blackdown Hills
- A 10-minute drive from Honiton, 30 from Taunton and 40 from Exeter
- Stargazing haven: campfires and barbecues allowed
Sit back in seventh heaven and scope out the stars from Grey Willow Yurts… deep in Devon’s Blackdown Hills and on an inland plateau where the views will leave you starstruck.
This site is all about down to earth and comfy stays: each of the traditional yabins (a cross between a yurt and a cabin) at this small and friendly family-run site has a woodburning stove inside, as well as your own area outside for a campfire (gas fires and barbecues are welcome too). Each one also has its own allocated amenities pod with a shower, sink and flushing toilet.
One can never guarantee you’ll see a meteor shower here, but the yabins’ location in the middle of the Blackdown Hills is one of the best stargazing spots in the country. It's about 50 minutes from here too to Exmoor National Park, the first designated Dark Sky Reserve in Europe… if you’re a novice to the night sky, book one of the stargazing courses on site to see what’s what.
Grey Willow Yurts is emphatically eco friendly, with drinking water coming from the site’s own borehole. There's also a washing-up point with hot and cold water, plus shelves for crockery, pans and the like.
For campfire supplies, Dunkeswell with a local shop and Honiton with a supermarket are within about 10 minutes’ drive and Cullompton is within 25. For exploring further afield, the site is in base position for sunny dispositions on days out at Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Jurassic Coast and the sights and scenery of south-west England: it all sounds rather heavenly...
