General

  • Eco-friendly glamping deep in the Blackdown Hills
  • A 10-minute drive from Honiton, 30 from Taunton and 40 from Exeter
  • Stargazing haven: campfires and barbecues allowed

Sit back in seventh heaven and scope out the stars from Grey Willow Yurts... deep in Devon’s Blackdown Hills and on an inland plateau where the views will leave you starstruck.

This site is all about down to earth and comfy stays: each of the traditional yabins (a cross between a yurt and a cabin) at this small and friendly family-run site has a woodburning stove inside, as well as your own area outside for toasting tiffin over a fire (gas fires and barbecues are welcome too).

You won't be able to comet before arrival on whether you’ll see a meteor shower while you’re Saturn the grass around the fire, but the yabins’ location in the middle of the Blackdown Hills is one of the best stargazing spots in the country. It's about 50 minutes from here too to Exmoor National Park, the first designated Dark Sky Reserve in Europe – quite the atmosphere for lying back and feeling heavenly… if you’re a novice to the night sky, book one of the stargazing courses on site to see what’s what.

Grey Willow Yurts is emphatically eco friendly: drinking water comes from the site’s own borehole, and hot water for the two bathrooms in the amenities block from a woodburning stove with boiler.

For campfire supplies, Dunkeswell with a local shop and Honiton with a supermarket are within about 10 minutes’ drive and Cullompton is within 25. For exploring further afield, the site is in base position for sunny dispositions on days out at Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Jurassic Coast and the sights and scenery of south-west England: it all sounds rather heavenly...

We loved everything about our stay in pandora from the camp fire where marshmallows were toasted and s’mores made to star gazing in the hammock.
Returning to the Yabin after to the cozy log fire the girls were able to run free and really enjoyed playing rounders on the site. Peter and Laura are a lovely couple and really make you feel welcome when they explain everything about the site to you
    Hopefully we will return

Nice quiet location, friendly owner. With the exception of food, everything I needed on site: utensils, kitchenware, candles, firelighters, washing up liquid etc. It was lovely to have a fire in the evenings and I do wish more places offered it.

    Disliked:

    Nothing really.

From the manager...

Thank you for you kind review.
We are planing on building a new amenities block this winter, which should be warmer in the colder months.
