Dipple Farm: Hanging baskets near The Glade

General

  • Eco-camping site in North Devon with spectacular Torridge Valley views
  • A 20-minute drive to The BIG Sheep; 25 minutes to Westward Ho! beach
  • Wildlife, walks and edible garden on site; close to pubs and shops

Fancy upping the family’s green credentials while taking in the spectacular beauty of the North Devon countryside? A camping break at Dipple Farm near Bideford might just be what you’re looking for. With cracking views over the Torridge Valley towards Dartmoor, this is an eco-friendly spot with a wild camping vibe on a family-owned working farm.

Straight from your pitch you can wander through wild meadows to Dipple Water for paddling and family games of pooh sticks. There’s a large field for football games, where kids can also run around safely, and peaceful walks along the Torridge river.

There’s quite a complement of livestock too; chickens and ducks roam freely and there are horses and sheep in neighbouring fields. If you get lucky, you might see deer, or you can stay up late (quietly) to watch badgers rummaging in the hedgerows.

During the day buzzards wheel overhead, kingfishers flit across the river, and owls fly out at dusk. No need to ever leave the farm really…

Back at base, you have device charging points in the West Barn, along with a dedicated fridge shelf, freezer space and free freezer packs. There’s a clothes line and laundry service available too.

Now about those green credentials. The water you drink is from the farm’s bore hole and additive-free. Each pitch has its own designated firepit, with wood and kindling from the farm’s woodland sold on site. You can pick seasonal goodies from the edible garden, like fresh herbs, salad leaves and strawberries.

There are composting loos and well-kitted out bathrooms – both made with wood harvested on site too – and washing-up points only to be used with eco-friendly cleaning products.

A stay with a difference. Got to give credit to the owners for doing everything possible to make guests welcome and comfortable. This includes have an urn constantly on the boil, toaster and fridge facilities available in a barn for those wishing to use them. .

There's a genuine environmental commitment which is also welcome.

Whilst the location is not easy to find once found it's a good place for visits to Clovelly, Harland Point etc. ...just don't exit the site up the left hand lane if you have wide camper van and don't want it scratched on brambles that had not been cut back in August. ...go right.

    Disliked:

The environmental considerations may not be to everyone's liking...well described on the website. The loos did not bother me but would not be my first choice, Otherwise no issue with anything....plenty of hot water as well.

Beautiful site, great facilities and very helpful owners. It was very important for us to have space and privacy - and we found it there. You can see and appreciate how much love and hard work the owners have put into creating this lovely space. We stayed 7 nights and despite the weather not being great - we loved every minute of it. Perfect location as well for exploring North Devon and Cornwall.

This is a lovely small site. There aren’t many pitches and they are all set up to have a view over the fields. The facilities are very clean and look new. There are fridges for all the pitches to store food and each pitch has it’s own table and chairs and a fire pit.
We stayed for a long weekend and really enjoyed the peace and nature. Despite feeling tucked away in the countryside Dipple farm is close to a lot of beaches and attractions so a great base for a longer holiday. We would definitely come back.

We were lucky enough to be this campsite's first booking through Pitchup and I can't say enough positive things about this beautiful place. Essentially this is a campsite set within a nature reserve with a huge variety of wildlife (otters, owls, water voles, foxes and much more).

The owners have made huge efforts to make a comfortable and safe site for the long term, including hot showers and clean toilets with soap and hand sanitiser. Nice touches like the storage lockers with safe charging for electricals and planters with edible plants that you are free to pick make this rural site still feel luxurious. Additions such as microwave, kettle and toaster mean that even if you aren't a regular camper you can still enjoy your stay. During the past year, many campsites have appeared which are basically fields with a tap. Dipple Farm couldn't be more different. This is a proper campsite created for the long term with eco credentials and the needs of campers in mind.

Pitches are spacious and spread out meaning you don't feel close to your neighbours. Camping is in the upper field, but you are also able to explore the well signposted site, with walks by the river in the lower fields.

The location provided a great base to explore the coast in both Devon and Cornwall, with easy access to beaches and coastal walks from Westward Ho! to Bude and beyond.

The owners are very friendly and helpful and really want to make sure you have an enjoyable stay.
