Surfers, walkers, families and their dogs – all are welcome at Springfield Farm Glamping. Perched on a hilltop with views right across North Devon to the coast, this nifty little site is on a working farm, offering secluded and secure glamping. Pre-erected bell tents are kitted out with a double bed and two single pull-outs – bottom sheets are included but please bring your own bedding (home comforts are the always best). Cosy decor includes a bedside table and storage chests, rugs and solar-powered fairy lights to pretty the place up at night Outside, there’s a firepit with a grill, plus pots and pans so you’re all set to fire up the barbecue and get cooking. Logs are provided too, with more available if required (a small charge) – plus a couple of deckchairs so you can have a quiet moment and drink in those amazing views. Stock up on grass-reared beef and lamb from the small essentials shop on site, and you can head to Barnstaple (15 minutes’ drive) for major shopping expeditions. Your canine chums need to have fun too, so there’s a dedicated off-lead field available for any dog with a zoomies outbreak, and plenty of farm walks (dogs on a lead, please) through fields and woodland. This place is wonderfully kid-friendly too – a number of down-on-the-farm experiences are also available, from pony grooming to egg collecting and feeding calves. Please book these on arrival.

Local attractions

Expert surfer or beginner? No matter, there’s board hire and tuition available on the famous beaches at Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe (all less than 25 minutes’ drive). You can also try your hand at coasteering on sea cliffs in Croyde Bay (30 minutes), or kayaking and paddleboarding from Combe Martin beach (20 minutes). Treat the kids to meet lemurs and meerkats at Exmoor Zoo (30 minutes); from there it’s an easy hop to Exmoor National Park (25 minutes) to spot wild ponies and herds of deer. Travelling in the other direction, you can spend a morning walking the South West Coast Path (20 minutes), before replenishing energy levels in pubs or cafés with glorious sea views. More sedate pleasure hereabouts include gorgeous parkland strolls at Marwood Hill Gardens (five minutes), and there are vintage transport displays and elegant Regency rooms to poke around at Arlington Court and Carriage Museum (25 minutes).
