General

  • Adults-only site in a rural location a mile from Exmoor National Park
  • Close to walking and cycling paths, a fishing lake and golf course
  • Five miles from the beaches and watersports of the north Devon coast

Hankering after a haven of peace and quiet? Head off to Hallsdown Farm Touring Park, a small rural site a mile from the Exmoor National Park and five miles from the north Devon coast.

Your near neighbours at this friendly farm park will include goats, Shetland ponies and a donkey; you’ll also want to be keeping an eye out for a flock of ducks or chickens toddling past. What you’ll not need to look out for is any kids, as this is a site reserved solely for the grownups (sorry small sorts – your elders just need a bit of space occasionally…)

A cluster of country and coast activities await in the local area: walks and bike rides in Exmoor, fishing at the reservoir a few minutes away and surfing or sea kayaking over in Ilfracombe, 20 minutes away. You could also take in a castle, a sculpture garden and Exmoor Zoo (perhaps best not mention that to any potentially jealous nippers).

Life on site is pretty relaxed – pitches are spacious and kitted out with their own electricity and water supplies, and there are essential amenities including a launderette and a toilet/shower block with individual facilities. The nearest sizeable village, Combe Martin, is 10 minutes’ drive away, but there’s a cracking farm shop a 15-minute stroll away if you’re planning to pick up supplies to eat in, and a pub half an hour’s walk away if you’d rather delegate cooking responsibilities.

Andrew was very accommodating of our late arrival, we had van issues and arrived after 8pm. We were given a choice of pitches and chose one that was sheltered by some shrubs. Very slight slope to pitch but easily levelled with 2 small levellers. Shower/toilet block contained 4 individual showers rooms each with changing area, toilet and sink, all immaculately clean. Showers were powerful and water was always warm. Pot washing/laundry room was open at all times with a very small charge to use washer/dryer. Electricity is paid for on a card but our 3 night stay in our campervan only cost us 50p in total! Lovely views of countryside from all pitches. Loved all the animals being near, ducks wandered past between ponds. Goats, sheep, Shetland ponies, were all in sight of our pitch too. We really enjoyed our stay!

    Disliked:

Nothing. Larger signage on entry would be helpful though. Hard to read in the dark.

Have stayed here twice now. Both times the site has been well maintained, its clean, tidy and nothing is too much trouble with the owners they go out of their way to make you feel so welcome.
Its great that its an adult only and dog free site, that makes a difference as we like the peace and quiet when away. The shower block well thats one of the best we have visited, there are 4 and all have a mini shower room just like home, its nice to have somewhere to out your stuff when showering.
Probably ideal for walkers or those using NT but we just wanted to stay and relax which is what we did. But lots of places to visit if you wish to do so.
Yes you can hear the crows, but who cares its nature, the ducks waddling around made our day and hearing the donkeys braying just added to the quirkiness.
The layout is great, our pitch has grey waste, water and electric and it was lovely to have it all together. We love this site, yes its very out of the way but we do think it adds to the charm, shame they don't open all year.
Keep up with the hard work the owners have an amazing site, thank u.

    Disliked:

No phone signal, i know we are away for peace and quiet but it was really difficult to get a signal for anything and with no wifi it was sometimes for us a bit too quiet plus no one could reach us which again not a problem if you don't use a mobile.
Could do with a better path to get to the toilet block as going on the wet grass is not great but not a deal breaker.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear that you have enjoyed your stays at Hallsdown. We get both a good EE signal and an O2 signal we are hoping to install wi-fi for the 2019 season, keep an eye on our facebook page for updates.
