Quiet, spacious pitches
The herdwick hut in the paddock awaiting guests
Lovely rural views all around
Plenty of space to relax in the sun

  • Rural site three miles from Barnstaple
  • Easily accessible from main roads and by public transport
  • Near Exmoor National Park and surfing beaches of the north Devon coast
There's easy peasy access to and from Crossways Country Park in north Devon: it's simply reached from main roads and – although peacefully rural – is close to piles of Devon attractions and activities, as well as Barnstaple three miles away. Buses from the stop outside the park entrance run to South Molton and Barnstaple. A dog exercise area is at the park and footpaths and country lanes are close by for walks off site. Exmoor National Park is about 12 miles away for longer walks and other activities such as cycling, horse riding, climbing and fishing; it's also a short drive from here to the beaches and famed surfing spots of the north Devon coast. Facilities include a launderette, a washing-up area and washrooms with toilets and showers. The site's a 10-minute walk from the food and drink of the Jack Russell pub, known for its connection with the Rev John Russell, breeder of the first Jack Russell terrier.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, spacious and well-maintained campsite with friendly and helpful hosts. Visitors consistently praise the cleanliness of the facilities, including showers and washing-up areas. The site's location is ideal for exploring North Devon and Exmoor, with lovely countryside walks available. While generally described as basic, the amenities are well-kept. Some guests note the shower block could benefit from updating, and there are occasional mentions of road noise. The shepherd's huts are also a popular choice.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Friendly, accomodating, direct and easy-going. Helped us choose a good spot on the site based on our needs and wants. Were able to put my disabled partner close to toilet block, which is important for us.

Bunnies lolloping around in the field late in the evening.

Don't know about WiFi because I had good phone signal, better than at the majority of sites I've stayed at.

Disliked Some road noise but not as bad as I've had at some sites and it wasn't a major issue and didn't wake me up once I was asleep.

Fields are not flat but I got my vehicle level enough with levelling blocks. Had to be slightly careful with positioning of table and chairs but everything was perfectly useable and I felt safe enough cooking on the table with gas so enough said really!

Liked friendly couple. Site was perfect for us. All the facilities we needed and the field is kept very tidy. In the countryside but only 3 miles out of Barnstaple. A vine yard is opposite.
Reasonable price.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The site is well kept, flat and attractively landscaped with lovely views into the hills. The facilities were plentiful and clean. What makes this place are the personable staff. Their house is part of the land and they are attentive, communicative and convivial. For reasons we could not understand given the location and natural beauty this site was quiet. If that’s your bag, grab it while you can.

Disliked There wasn’t anything to dislike.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Peaceful location, and friendly owners. Great pub down the road in Swimbridge for food. Clean toilets and showers. Pleasant walk through the adjacent woods.

Disliked Showers and toilet block could do with updating. Drainage on the big shower didn't work very well.
