  • Peaceful site on a North Devon farm 15 minutes’ drive from Barnstaple
  • Instow Beach 20 minutes’ drive and The Big Sheep 25 minutes
  • Off-grid pop-up with hens and cattle; pubs within 10 minutes’ drive
If you’re looking for a peaceful, small and simple site for a back-to-nature camping experience in North Devon, then Cranford Oak Farm may be the place for you. At 15 minutes’ drive from Barnstaple and 20 minutes by car from Instow Beach, the camping field has a south-facing position with stunning views towards Dartmoor; Exmoor is visible to the north-east. Facilities at this rural pop-up site are intentionally minimal (they do include modern composting toilets), allowing you to experience a no-frills camping holiday while still staying comfortable. Firepits and wood can be provided for a small additional fee, so you can cosy up around the fire for evenings under the stars on clear nights. The camping field is set on a working farm, so you’ll experience the sights and sounds of the countryside – including free-roaming chickens and cows grazing in neighbouring fields. Dogs are very welcome, but must be kept on leads at all times due to the livestock, and please note that the lane can occasionally be busy with farm machinery. There are several local pubs, restaurants and cafés within 10 minutes’ drive – feel free to ask the owners for recommendations on the best Sunday roasts, and other vital bits of info like local tide times and sunset spots.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Cheap and cheerful, nice views, nice to see the free roaming chickens. Host was sound

Disliked Not much to complain about, its an upcoming camp site which may have more facilities in the future.
Just an idea maybe have some solar lights on the bogs and entrance.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Nic was very friendly and welcoming,
Site lovely and quiet, very basic , but great for our first try at off grid camping brand new compost toilets and water tap available. Lovely views.

Disliked Other campers lack of respect of the new facilities. Please could future fellow campers clean up after themselves to keep this little gem the treasure it deserves to be.
Also to keep music down to a minimum
So all can enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Such a gorgeous, peaceful location. Was lovely waking up to the view from the field. The actual site is super clean and was pleasantly surprised with the compost loos which looked brand new and seemed well thought out.

The owner was really accomodating and helpful with local recommendations and I also had some eggs from the chickens for breakfast which was so nice :)

Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all.
Really good value site!
