Great Jackleigh Farm: Woke to Blue skies

General

  • Semi-rural pop-up site in the Axe Valley with generously sized pitches
  • A mile from Axminster town centre; 15 minutes' drive from the coast
  • Firepits welcome and firewood for sale; well-behaved dogs welcome

Delve deeper into Dorset and Devon with a stay at Great Jackleigh Farm, a pop-up campsite set on a gently sloping field in the spectacular Axe Valley.

This peaceful site is part of a working farm and reverts back to agricultural use when guests aren't staying here. It's in a quiet location, with the little noise there is mostly coming from the livestock grazing in neighbouring fields and the background hum of agricultural machinery. Well-behaved dogs are welcome here, but please remember that other animals are around so they’ll need to be kept on leads at all times.

The farm is a mile from the centre of Axminster, where there are pubs, restaurants, a railway station, taxi ranks and bus stops. The fact that the A35 is similarly close makes it easy to get around and about in the local area, with the nearest Jurassic Coast beaches reachable in about a quarter of an hour's drive.

Back at base, you can look forward to basic but well-maintained facilities – all pitches have access to an old barn for shade on hot days (or shelter on wet ones), showers, toilets and a washing-up area. Firepits are welcome too, and wood is sold on site on request.

Guests who'd rather not use the shared facilities are welcome to bring a portable toilet for personal use.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

At least one of the party members must be aged 25 or over.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Good facilities - toilets and showers always clean. Mervyn was very friendly and accommodating. Use of a kettle and power available in the barn which also offered some shelter when weather was bad. Large and spacious site with beautiful views.

    Disliked:

There is some noise from the main road, but nothing horrific unless a noisy motorbike passes.

Great campsite. Lots of space for each pitch so never felt crowded, even when 'full'. The centre of the field was a great space for the kids to play in.
The covered area for cooking/eating if the weather is really bad was a good idea, although we didn't really need to use it.
The field slopes slightly, but the pitches around the edge are mostly flat so not a problem.
The whole site was very clean and tidy especially the toilet/shower portacabin.
    Owners very friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

Nothing really. Perhaps there could have been an extra toilet for the men (ladies had four to the one in the gents!)

Easy to get to, good position to visit the area

    Disliked:

1 shower for 20 sets of campers. Paying extra for each dog and an awning. Road was close but not actually too bad ok for a couple of nights. Think could be £10 cheaper per night considering 1 shower and no hot water to wash up.

From the manager...

For reference, there is one shower for the men and one shower for the ladies. More showers to be added next year
