  • Camping pitches with Widemouth Bay views in Cornwall
  • A five-minute drive from Bude; half an hour from Tintagel
  • Pub, shop, restaurant and surf hire all a couple of minutes' walk away
Ever dreamed of waking up to a sea view? Or perhaps stoking the flames of a campfire as the sun sets over the waves? Sign up for a bit of both with a stay at Sandparks Campsite, a friendly, informal site with pitches overlooking Widemouth beach in north Cornwall. Those in the know will no doubt recognise this name as being one of Cornwall’s top surfing beaches – and as well as viewing it from your pitch you can also get down there to hit the waves whenever you fancy from here. And it’s not just the beach that’s handy: a pub (with top-notch Cornish ales), a restaurant (with fresh seafood) and a shop (with local meat and fish for your barbecue) are all a mere 50 metres away from the site. There’s also surfing kit hire available for those who don’t have their own board. If you fancy exploring a little further afield, it’s worth noting that this is a fine spot for getting out to walk on the South West Coast Path or to spend some time roaming around north Cornwall. Bude is about a 40-minute walk or five-minute drive away and you can get to the likes of Boscastle, Tintagel and Bodmin Moor within half an hour’s drive. Life on site is pretty simple, but guests have access to a waste disposal point, a washing-up area and a modern toilet and shower block. Barbecues and campfires are both permitted at this laidback spot, as are visiting dogs.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Facilties were immaculate. The site facilities are simple but very well looked after. Managed very well and staff very present. Atmosphere of the site is peaceful and focused on relaxation and enjoyment for all. Location is excellent. Beach, restaurants, cafe, shop are all a few minutes. Sunset is amazing. Site team are lovely.

Disliked Nothing. It exceeded our expectations in its simplicity.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked A great location and dog friendly. I liked that you could pick your pitch when you arrived instead of being allocated a spot. The toilet/shower/wash up facilities were clean, tidy and spacious and as its within walking distance of the beach the outside area for washing off sand before entering the shower block is a great idea , we were told we could use this area to rinse /cool our dog there if needed (we came in the heatwave)The site is not covered with streetlights which makes for a great view of the night sky . Checkout time was 12:00 which lead to a nice relaxed breakfast and packdown of our camp. I Would definatly stay again

Electric grass pitch

Liked Location, very close to the beach and two pubs for drinks and meals. Also, great access to the SW Coastal Path, as well as other paths and walks along around, including the Bude Canal.

Disliked Not dislikes so much, just some minor issues which can easily be resolved! Toilets and shower blocks are a very good standard and well kept. However, the shower stalls would benefit from more hooks to hang clothes and towel off, along with a shelf for a toilet bag or to put footware off the ground. Another minor point, the portable toilet waste location was not obvious and a simple sign would be helpful. Whilst we appreciated the laid back atmosphere of the site, it was clear many campers did not understand some basic etiquette, such as never take "shortcuts" between pitches. The simple layout, eg no hedging or obvious barriers separating pitches obviously contributed to this. Why complain? Well, our dog only ever barked when people were too bone idle to follow the proper routes and cut through the side between our pitch and our neighbours. We even had someone who aggressively objected to our dog as they took a shortcut and clumsily tripped on a guy rope supporting our windbreak, alarming our dog and disturbing our peace.
Finally, if you have a TV and want to use it, our experience was that it was impossible because of absolutely no signal. Not the end of the world, I know.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great site with excellent clean facilities. The staff work very hard to maintain the site and keep everything clean. Having wardens on site put us at ease, they were not prying but obviously like to keep an eye on the site.

Stunning views across to the sea at Widemouth Bay. Great accessibility to Bude and surrounding villages with a great choice of beaches close by. You can also walk the coastal path into Bude (there and back around 10km). We will absolutely return to this site.

Local attractions

Widemouth isn’t the only bit of coastal Cornwall that’s easy to visit from here. Sandparks is also in a handy spot for outings to Bude (five minutes’ drive), where another top surf beach beckons, along with surf lessons and a sea pool for more gentle swims. Elsewhere along the coast, you could stop by in Boscastle (20 minutes) for a stroll around a traditional fishing village, or explore Arthurian legends at Tintagel Castle (half an hour) – perhaps also stopping by at the mystical St Nectan’s Glen (25 minutes) to see if you can spot pixies as you walk to the waterfall. Turning inland for a while, there are some great walks to be done on Bodmin Moor (25 minutes), or you could delve into the area’s history at Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum (15 minutes). Other options for entertaining the kids might be the animals at New Mills Farm Park, the puzzle-themed attractions at Hidden Valley or the characterful residents of The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden – all are about a half-hour drive away.
