  • Simple site on Cornwall’s north coast, 15 minutes’ drive from Padstow
  • Mawgan Porth five minutes’ drive; 20 minutes to Newquay
  • Access to Porthcothan Bay and the South West Coast Path
Set just inland from the north Cornwall coast, Seaview Farm Stays has pretty views across the surrounding valley and (from various points around the site) towards the sea, too; and since it faces west, sunsets here can be very memorable. Just five minutes’ drive from St Eval and close to several sandy beaches, it’s a peaceful and well-placed base for exploring the coast. There are excellent walks along the South West Coast Path to Bedruthan Steps (35 minutes on foot) or Mawgan Porth (about an hour), or you can just stroll through the farm to reach the sands of Porthcothan Bay (25 minutes), a splendid spot for paddling and bodyboarding, as well as scenic sunset picnics. Other walks might take you to Park Head (half an hour) or Porth Mear Cove (35 minutes). Can’t get enough of those splendid Cornish beaches? Top spots like Newquay (20 minutes’ drive) and Perranporth (40 minutes) aren’t far off either. This is a laidback and pleasingly spacious site that welcomes families, groups and dogs and that is pretty relaxed about things like barbecues and campfires. Simple facilities include basic toilets, coin-operated hot showers, drinking water taps and a chemical waste disposal facility. Please be aware that pitches are on a slight slope. Mawgan Porth (five minutes’ drive) and Padstow (15 minutes) are your closest places for shops and places to eat, but there’s also a shop at Porthcothan Bay (just over half a mile away) for snacks, coffees and ice creams, plus a nice tearoom a little over a mile away.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Wonderful location - a 15-20 minute walk to the South West Coast path, with some beautiful sights in either direction.

Facilities were very clean and well maintained.

We would definitely stay again.

Disliked Missing some amenities such as an ice pack freezer, but can't complain at the price we paid.

Most of the camp site is on a slight incline but not too bad.

N.B. there is very little mobile signal, but WiFi is available if you are set up near the facilities, chargeable at around £5 per day. We didn't use it so can't comment on its performance.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Fantastic pop-up farm campsite in a great location. Basic but excellent value, with super-clean flushing toilets and lovely warm showers. Perfectly placed for access to the coast path, with Porthcothan, Mawgan Porth and the surrounding area just a short drive away. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming too. Would definitely recommend!

Disliked The only improvement I’d suggest would be to have a little more space between camping pitches where possible and/or making this clearer to people, as some campers were quite close together. It might also be worth considering additional waste facilities or bins around the site, as there was a little rubbish blowing around in the morning. Otherwise, everything was great!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked A great campsite, basic but with everything I needed - loos and showers with hot water. It had a nice view over the countryside with a sea view in the distance. Even in the middle of August it was nice and quiet. There was an easy walk across the fields onto the coastal path where you could walk to Porthcothan, or Bedruthan.

Local attractions

Foodies make a beeline for Padstow (15 minutes’ drive), where celebrity chef Rick Stein has several fish restaurants – just be sure to book ahead if you wish to sample some of his dishes. The Camel Trail, which starts (or ends) in the town is an 18-mile path that follows an old railway line through woodlands and marshlands and along the River Camel. If the kids have a surfeit of energy, take them to Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (15 minutes), with rides for all ages, resident animals (rabbits, goats, meerkats among others) and a splash zone. Speaking of splashing: Giant Slip and Slide Cornwall (15 minutes) is an inflatable attraction with multiple sliding lanes. Whether you want to have a go or are a bit of a pro, Newquay (20 minutes) is the place for catching waves, whether at Great Western Beach or at Fistral Beach, behind which is an 18-hole golf club. And if it’s miniature golf you’re after, try the indoor course at Pirate’s Quest Adventure Golf.
