  • Luxury Cornwall shepherd’s huts with direct access to Bodmin Moor
  • A five-minute drive to the Camel Trail; 40 minutes to Polzeath beach
  • Fully furnished pods with a foodie pub five minutes’ drive away
Comfy, stylish and really rather fabulous, On the Moor Shepherd's Huts glamping site is on the edge of the Cornish village of St Breward. Here's a place where you can get straight out onto Bodmin Moor for hiking and cycling adventures, with grazing horses, sheep and Highland cows as your neighbours (as well as the owner’s children and two friendly dogs). Each pod is fully furnished, with a double bed and a kitchen area with all the utensils you need to create meals. There’s a wifi connection for keeping in touch with the outside world, and should there be a chilly day you can snuggle up in front of the smart TV in comfort while the woodburning stove keeps you toasty (kindling is provided). Up the luxury factor by adding a hot tub to your stay if you like (extra charge); private loos and showers a few steps away from the huts come as standard. There’s lighting so you can find your way when it’s dark, and an umbrella in case of rain. It’s a cinch getting here, with the main A30 (10 minutes’ drive) also giving you easy access to other parts of Cornwall. St Breward (five minutes) has a cracking pub serving up home-cooked food as well as their ever-popular Sunday roasts, or you can pick up self-catering supplies in Bodmin supermarkets, 20 minutes away.

Local attractions

Often overlooked in the rush to get further into Cornwall, Bodmin Moor Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (direct access from the glamping site) has a remote landscape of heather-clad hills topped with granite tors. As well as wild beauty, this secluded moor offers some cracking walking and cycling – head to The Cheesewring or Hurlers Stone Circles (both 40 minutes’ drive) for outstanding views, or pick up the long-distance Camel Trail in St Breward (five minutes). History is all around you here; for starters, you’re likely to come across abandoned tin mines wherever you go, and you can scare yourself silly on ghost walks among the ruins of creepy Bodmin Jail Attraction. If that doesn’t appeal, have a leisurely snoop around the art treasures at Pencarrow House and Garden (both 20 minutes), a grand Georgian pile open for guided tours. Turning to the north Cornish coast, Polzeath beach (35 minutes) is a sure-fire winner with surfers, while a little further north, you can explore mysterious medieval Tintagel Castle and scramble down to the beach to see Merlin’s Cave or go rockpooling. On the way back to base camp, call in on Port Isaac (both half an hour), a gorgeous fishing village doubling at Doc Martin’s home in the TV series.
