General

  • Family-run site in the grounds of a pub on Bodmin Moor
  • A short walk from Colliford Lake for brown and rainbow trout fishing
  • Pub with beer garden, playground and extensive food menu

Colliford Tavern is a family-run pub in 17 acres of splendid countryside a few minutes' walk from the banks of Colliford Lake on Bodmin Moor. There's a peaceful atmosphere at this woodland location but as the site is just off the A30, Cornwall's main artery road, you’ll also have easy access to many of the area's towns and attractions.

Guests can fish for brown and rainbow trout at Colliford Lake (buy your daily licence at reception), and there are plenty of other activities locally, including walking or cycling on the moor or wakeboarding at Siblyback Lake. It’s also an excellent area for dark skies, and the site often organises stargazing events centred around its telescope.

You won't have to go far for eating out, as the tavern is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a wide-ranging menu of pub classics at main meal times. There's a games room in the pub and sometimes it stages live music and entertainment in the evenings. Outside, there’s a large beer garden and a playground.

If you'd prefer to cook for yourself there's a kitchen unit provided for guests; supplies can be picked up in a couple of supermarkets around 15 minutes’ drive away in Bodmin.

Amenities include a toilet block with hot showers and accessible facilities, and a laundry area with coin-operated washing machines. Dogs are welcome on site and can be walked in a suitable area just next door.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

    location is stunning

    Disliked:

After making an advance online booking for the touring pitches we made our way to the site. Following our 2 hour journey we were met with a very stressed and "blunt" receptionist who informed us that the hotel was not accessible to touring site guests due to a private wedding reception. This was not mentioned upon booking several weeks earlier! This meant that we were also unable to use the bar for drinks or restaurant for food. Due to this being a short stay over on our way through Cornwall we had come unprepared for this restriction with limited food drinks. We live and learn and will ensure we carry adequate food and drink in the future.

We have visited this site for the past few years, but it appears to now be under new management. Unfortunately this appears to have had a negative impact on the site. This is such a shame. What was a lovely, quaint stop over is no more.

Great little place looking forwards to visiting again11/09/2019

This place is so nice, the staff were very laid back and friendly and let you pitch where you wanted
we were travailing in a motorhome and didn't require electric hook up so we stayed in a beautiful field surrounded by trees , it was so quite apart from a little noise from the A30 and dark , The tavern was to be fair a little dated but had a lovely atmosphere great view of the coliford lake good food and beer, and help full jolly staff
If your looking for a 5 star holiday site then this is not for you, but if your looking for a great place to stay overnight or like us a base for a couple of days, this is it
we loved it here and will return again soon. The site does have showers toilets and facilities for disabled but they are basic, there is a chemical disposal point but waste disposal and recycling is a little vague.
The price per night is very reasonable for what you experience and to help keep this lovely little site going I would recommend you have your main meals here and meet the locals... we loved it

    Disliked:

Access to coliford lake isn't straight forward we walked for at least 30 minuets only to find we couldn't access the lake because it was fenced off by builders repairing the carpark toilets, although this is only a temporary inconvenience I am mentioning this only because I have a heart condition and found this quite frustrating.. but any fit person would not find this a problem, I'm sure the walk did me good anyway

Unfortunately, here is nothing we liked about this camp site......

    Disliked:

This is the worst camp site I have ever been to. We had an electric grass pitch. However, during the three nights we stayed, we experienced several power cut - not only at the camp site but also the main facilities and thus there were no lights at the toilets, and no hot water for shower at night.

The second problem was that the camp site didn't provide toilet paper to all the toilets, even after we complaint about that. Can you imagine only one roll of paper sharing between the toilets?

The worst thing is that this camp site runs a pub with loud music till 11 pm. Unless you really enjoy having drunkards around shouting and laughing till 1 o'clock in the morning, please DO NOT GO TO THIS SITE - You wouldn't know what will happen....we had someone leaving a used nappy outside our tent!

The location is what I am rating this site for. The views and surrounding area

    Disliked:

The other reviews are spot on with what they have said regarding the state of the facilities, rubbish collection and confusion over bookings. One shower in the ladies didn't have a light and was pitch black. I turnt the other shower on 3 times and it seemed to stay stone cold. The facilities were that disgusting I drove 50mins back to Plymouth to take a shower at home!!!
The bar area seemed lively and slightly better kept.
The managers seemed to be doing the jobs of 10 people between them.
It's the simple things like cutting the grass. Wouldn't take long.
I deal with holiday let's and aware my hygiene standards are higher than some but the facilities need a bloody good clean and to be kept on top of once daily. That's all it would take.
I struggled to see where any of the revenue made being put back into the site.
Toilet paper and hand wash isn't expensive.
    Honest reviews ruin businesses.
There is such potential with the place. Just needs someone to care a little for what paying guests are getting.

The welcome was good, the staff were friendly in the tavern. Was able to get some food although a bit pricey.

    Disliked:

Turning up at registration, they had no record of our booking. We had to negotiate in the dark where we had to go and then find a pitch that had what we'd booked for the night.
Overhanging branches that were against the roof of the caravan all night, especially with the wind and rain.
The toilet and shower facilities were disgusting. Rubbish collating outside the toilet block, mouldy shower curtains and really unhygienic toilets. The only redeeming thing was the disabled toilet and shower, which was the only clean thing on site.

Great location. Average plots but adequate.

    Disliked:

Toilet / shower block was abysmal. Unclean, no toilet roll in one of two cubicles for two days (apart from what was on the floor). Showers had no lighting most of time and thus were almost pitch black. Mentioned to staff but nothing done. I made use of the disabled room for my stay......at least that was bright and stocked even if still grubby and with semi blocked shower drainage.
Standard rubbish / waste disposal for campers appeared to be just a bucket with a paper label affixed stating "Waste".
A shame because the site is in a lovely area and is spoiled by the above.
