  • Cornish pop-up campsite with sea views 10 minutes’ drive from Redruth
  • Porthtowan Beach and the South West Coast Path five minutes’ drive
  • Quiet grass pitches five minutes’ walk from a cider mill; dogs welcome
What do you need on a Cornish camping holiday? Access to a sandy beach, long walks on the South West Coast Path and a cider mill close by? Carn View Camping, 25 minutes’ drive west from Truro, has got all of the above and more. This quiet and rural pop-up site has breathtaking views over the North Cornwall coastline from well-kept and level camping fields. Water is supplied and there’s a portable loo, but there’s little else in the way of luxuries, making this a clever choice for families looking for a properly self-sufficient wild camping adventure. Your canine companions are welcome on site, and there are a couple dog-friendly beaches within 10 minutes’ drive, where you can all have a run around and a paddle in the waves. If you’re doing self-catering, there are supermarkets in Redruth; if you’d rather eat out there’s a pub with a sea-view beer garden in Portreath (both 10 minutes’ drive), while the cider mill (five minutes’ walk) is open for tastings and Cornish cream teas during the day.

What customers say

This is a lovely, quiet site with friendly owners who are happy to offer local advice. Guests consistently praise the well-maintained, flat fields and appreciate the exceptionally clean portaloos. The location is considered ideal for hikers, offering easy access to Portreath and Port Town, though accessibility from Porthtowan on foot may be challenging. Some guests noted dried dog poo, though this is not a recurring comment. Overall, visitors highly recommend the site and intend to return.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Owner very nice and offered some advice about local places to eat.

Disliked Very basic and a pain getting to the campsite from Porthtowan on foot - not for people on the south west coastal path.
Some dried dog poo left around the site.
