  • Well-maintained Cornwall touring pitches behind a pub on the A394
  • Flambards Theme Park and Trebah Garden within 15 minutes' drive
  • Meals available all day in the pub, plus breakfast in high season
Halfway between Falmouth and Helston is a mighty fine spot in which to settle for a Cornwall break crammed with fantastic days out – and that’s exactly the position in which Halfway House Touring Campsite sits. This touring site is a popular central location within west Cornwall, well placed for days on the north or south coast, trips to the very tip of the county or outings to the area's many family attractions. And it wins extra bonus points for being just off the A394, giving guests easy access to the main road for quick journeys (although please note this can mean some road noise on the pitches – if you’re after a very peaceful retreat you’ll probably want to look elsewhere…) As if the location wasn’t enough, there are even more bonus points won here by the fact that the pitches are just behind a pub. This, of course, means that a proper pint is never far away when you get home after a day out, whether you choose to relax inside the pub or soak up the last of the sun out in the beer garden. The pub serves food, too – opening from noon until late, with a breakfast service in high season. It’s a popular place, so it’s worth adding a note to your booking to ask for a table reservation if you're planning to dine there on your arrival day. That said, if you don’t manage it, the pub also offers takeaways. As for where you’ll be staying, it’s a small campsite area with just a handful of touring pitches for motorhomes, campervans and caravans. Each pitch has electric and water connections, and access to grey waste disposal.

Local attractions

This central location is an excellent one for lots of Cornwall days out, including walks on the South West Coast Path, surfing at places like Hayle beach (half an hour’s drive), outings to Land’s End (50 minutes) and visits to top attractions like St Michael’s Mount (half an hour), Lost Gardens Heligan (45 minutes) and the Eden Project (50 minutes). Closer to the pub, there are a couple of great options to entertain the kids: Flambards Theme Park (10 minutes), with thrill rides, an indoor play area and a Victorian village, and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (15 minutes), which is home to otters, goats and penguins as well as the rescued seal and sea lions. For something more physical, try a kayak trip on the Helford River from Koru Kayaking, Frenchman’s Creek (20 minutes); meanwhile, for a nice gentle afternoon out, you may like to take a stroll through Trebah Garden (15 minutes), where paths run through seasonal displays and subtropical woods down to a private beach.

Liked: Lovely well kept site on pub grounds. Really friendly staff in the pub, didn’t have any food but the drinks we had were very nice. Easy access to Falmouth via bus links. Will definitely be staying again.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, it is the ideal place to stay if you have your own facilities.
