  • Simple but friendly site 10 minutes' walk from Lizard
  • Kynance Cove, Church Cove and Pentreath beach within walking distance
  • Close to an activity centre for watersports and climbing
If you’re after a stay somewhere remote and scenic, the Lizard Peninsula should certainly fit the bill – this is Cornwall’s most southerly point, so you could hardly get further away from the trappings of hectic modern life. Almost down at the very tip of this scenic peninsula is Kynance Camping, just outside the village of Lizard and a short walk from its pubs, farm shop and places to eat. This is a great spot from which to explore the countryside and coastline of this gorgeous part of the world – a footpath/bridleway next to the site leads to the village and then on to the end of the peninsula. Kynance Cove, Church Cove and Pentreath beach are all within walking distance of the site too, and you can get out to explore all three (plus all the bits in between) by picking up the South West Coast Path nearby for a muscle-challenging but mighty scenic hike. If that’s not quite enough activity, have a chat with the activity centre in the village, which sorts out days of coasteering, kayaking, paddleboarding and climbing. This is a site that’s basic but friendly – the owners are often around to help and offer advice on the best beaches and other bits to do in the area. Guests are welcome to light barbecues for outdoor evenings.

Liked Great location close to the village with 3 pubs, lots of gift shops, butchers, farm shop, cafes etc. Beautiful scenery nearby at Kynance cove and Lizard point. Great for walking the coastal paths. Lovely warm showers and all the facilities needed for motorhoming. Kind and friendly staff on site.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch (XL)

Liked Large pitches, very quiet even from early evening to late morning owners listened when we had an issue, onsite shop, eco conscious values, walking distance to the stunning Kynance cove.

Disliked The facilities were very basic and not always very clean. It would benefit from another toilet & shower block, especially more showers.
We really didn’t like the site initially upon arrival & almost left, did grow on us a bit. Probably won’t return

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Just a 5 / 10 minute walk to Lizard, and a short walk to Ellie's soul food which sold lovely food in a caravan setting with seating - definitely worth a visit,

Disliked Very large site with many pitches, but unfortunately did not have the resources for that many people. There are two shower blocks, one each end of the site, and the those at the back end were half used for storage (old mattresses, chairs etc stacked inside) leaving just two showers and one sink which always had a queue (toothbrushing, vanity etc but used also for handwashing due to the eco toilets). The 'wash up area' was a 4ft high flat table so you had to stretch to the back of this to turn on the taps and water ran off the sides straight onto your feet, sleeves etc - a sink would be really helpful here. I saw one camper resort to doing the washing up in one of the showers instead!

The pictures used in the advertising are of Lizard and not the campsite, where you only have a view of either the road, or high hedges, which is a little misleading.

Local attractions

This is a splendid area for getting out into the open air of course, and there are some very fine Cornish corners within walking distance of this site – during your time here it’s very much worth making the trip to Church Cove (25 minutes’ walk), Pentreath beach (half an hour) and Kynance Cove (50 minutes). For more outdoor activities, have a chat with the folk at Lizard Adventure (15 minutes’ walk) who can organise watersports and climbing. While the natural landscapes around here are excellent, there are also some fine views to be had at some of the local gardens, including the lovely lakes at Bonython Estate Gardens (10 minutes’ drive) and the National Trust’s seaside estate at Glendurgan Garden (35 minutes). For other days out, have a wander around a classic Cornish fishing village at Cadgwith (five minutes), meet cute critters at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (20 minutes) or have a fun family day out at Flambards Theme Park (20 minutes), which has all sorts of rides as well as history-themed attractions to explore.
