  • Laidback site on a 30-acre family farm next to Stithians Reservoir
  • A 15-minute drive from Falmouth and south coast beaches
  • Café on site for breakfasts, coffees and cakes; campfires allowed
What are you after from a family outdoor holiday? Meet some farm animals? Build a campfire? Space for the kids and dogs to run around in the fresh air? All of the above are on offer at Wild and Free Camping, on a 30-acre family run farm in the Cornwall countryside near the tiny hamlet of Carnmenellis and about a 15-minute drive from Falmouth. This laidback location is in a fab spot for getting out and about to some of Cornwall’s best beaches and top attractions, with speedy access to other corners of the county along the A394 a mile and a bit away. Back at base you can meet the permanent residents Barry and Betty the sheep, the four little piggies and the rest of the crew (goats, ponies, chickens and rabbits). The farm is just on the banks of 300-acre Stithians Reservoir so once you’ve greeted the whole gang, take a wander down there for some stunning views over the water (a good spot for a picnic perhaps?) Facilities here are suitably in tune with their surroundings – eco-friendly compost loos are provided and the strong, hot showers have been set up in a smart construction created from reclaimed stones from the farm’s former outbuildings. A café opens up in summer to serve tasty breakfasts (including homemade granola, heritage-breed sausages and farm egg rolls), cakes, cold drinks and proper coffee. Can’t resist a bit of campfire cookery? Logs, kindling and firelighters are available from the little honesty shop (and guests can also use the café’s fridge/freezer, toaster and microwave when not in use… just in case the alfresco dinner doesn’t go to plan…)
