  • Peaceful sheltered wild meadow site 400 metres from Porthilly beach
  • A five-minute walk to the Camel Estuary beach; 15 minutes from Rock
  • Grass pitches within walking distance of Rock’s shops and restaurants
You may know Cornwall for its natural scenery or sandy hotspots… but what about the quieter alcoves? At Porthilly Beach Pop-Up Camping, you’ll be in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty five minutes’ walk away from Porthilly beach on the Camel Estuary – nicely tucked away from the busier crowds in a small, sheltered and rather peaceful meadow. This is quite a comfy stay – on site, there’s drinking water from a tap (watersports on the estuary may very well end up being thirsty work) and portable toilets are provided. Guests also have access to basic hot showers and toilet facilities at the caravan site a couple of minutes’ walk away (please note that this is a nature walk and not suitable for wheelchair access). Once you’re nicely rinsed off, there’s a short footpath close by the site that leads the way across grassy fields into a splendid selection of local shops, including a delicatessen, café, small food shop, butchers, bakery and fish and chips shop. Of course, the site is also deliciously close to neighbouring towns like Rock, 15 minutes’ walk away from Porthilly beach and quite the watersports centre, with windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing and rowing all specialities on the relatively calm waters of the estuary. If you fancy keeping your feet on solid ground instead, you may want to walk a section of the South West Coast Path (five minutes’ walk) for dreamy coastline views. Then, there’s the harbour town of Padstow (35 minutes’ drive), a mecca for all things foodie, with anything from fine dining spots to fish and chips munched on the quayside. You can hop on the foot ferry at Rock to explore this busy little fishing town, and stock up on calories too.

Meadow 1 non-electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked: Clean hot showers and flush toilets a short walk away. Lovely large pitch with space from other pitches. Quiet and in a pretty area with a nice estuary walk to the beautiful beach.

Disliked: Was difficult to get 50 pences for the shower, as forget to bring enough for the week - shops preferring card payments. Very expensive fish and chips from local takeaway.

Liked: Location was excellent, a lovely basic campsite with sheltered pitches and clean facilities.

Disliked: Were only able to stay as didn’t have the dogs this time; we’d love to come back but not being dog-friendly is very limiting.
