  • Peaceful farm site in Pityme, with views over the Camel Estuary
  • A couple of miles from beaches and watersports in Rock and Polzeath
  • Cornish cream teas available in the gardens
What a cracking Cornish spot – views over the Camel Estuary, a family-friendly pub within walking distance and just a couple of miles from beach times and watersports in Rock and Polzeath. As if that wasn’t enough to tempt you, Blakes Keiro Farm Caravan Site, just outside Pityme, is also the home of Nana’s Cream Teas, where you can slather jam and cream (in that order) on scones while gazing out over the gorgeous views from the garden. Foodies who’d like to do more local feasting are within a few miles of several fab restaurants and chippies, including celeb chef haunts in Padstow and Port Isaac (which may well also be familiar to those who’ve ever watched Doc Martin on the tellybox). Working up an appetite for such treats is easily done: the farm itself has four public footpaths, and you’re also within easy reach of the South West Coast Path and the traffic-free Camel Trail for riverside walks and bike rides. Golf and fishing are a couple of miles away in Rock, and easy access to the A39 means lots of top attractions are a cinch to reach too. With all this to keep you busy by day, you’ll no doubt be needing a peaceful place to rest your head of an evening, and that’s what you’ll get at Blakes Keiro – no activities or ents laid on here, just some basic facilities in the form of a toilet block, and plenty of space to chill out.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The views were lovely despite the storms! Spacious pitches

Disliked: The shower blocks are ‘rustic’, there looks to be a new one being built. The site was quiet, prob due to the weather, but the toilet blocks really needed a clean. There was a mop and bucket (with dirty water) left out but I don’t expect to be cleaning all the floors for the top rate cost of the pitch. Hopefully after some investment this will be a good site. Note to other caravanners - the drive is long and virtually nowhere to pull in if you meet another caravan.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The view and quietness from the hard standing area, but early in the season I guess, as only another van pitched alongside. Handy to lots of good walks and nearby villages.

Disliked: Shower/toilet block- but a new one is under construction . No Wi-Fi provision. Not a pub walking distance really, particularly if wet.

Liked: Good spot and great pub just down the road

Disliked: The shower/toilet facilities were shocking, think 1980's building site. It looks like they are in the process of building a new one which is the least they need to do

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nice level hard standing pitch, fab views, hot shower. Very quiet. Staff very friendly and helpful, had an electrical issue which they helped fixed, The site was a little muddy getting in but it had rained lots and they are in process of building a new shower block, which will be great when finished.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Location is a good base. Pitches are nice.

Disliked: Facilties are poor. Far too small and in desperate need of updating. Not nice to use. Signs to wash hands but soap dispenser empty all week. Sign to sanitise hands but no sanitiser. Bucket and mop to mop floor after a shower was filthy. Did not see any staff all week. Left a day early. We should all expect better.

Local attractions

You may need to settle here for some time if you’re going to explore all the outdoorsy options nearby. Cyclists can hire bikes in Wadebridge to pedal along the 18-mile Camel Trail, and there are plenty of walks nearby too. Rock has a golf course and a watersports centre for kayaking, waterskiing and paddleboarding. And there are the beaches, of course… try Porthilly or Brea beaches for beach games, Polzeath for surfing and surf lessons, or Harbour Cove (accessed by ferry across the river from Rock) for rockpooling and sandcastle construction. Family-friendly outings nearby might include trips to Camel Creek Adventure Park, the Cornish Bird of Prey Centre or Newquay Zoo, all of which are within a drive of half an hour or so. The famed domes of the Eden Project are around a 40-minute drive away but well worth the trip.
