  • Pre-erected, furnished glamping tents on a rural, central Cornish site
  • A 15-minute drive to Perranporth beach, and 25 minutes to Falmouth
  • Private bathrooms and a communal kitchen; pub five minutes’ drive
Are you dreaming of a beach holiday or a break exploring the walking trails of Cornwall? No need to choose between the two at Cox Hill Glamping, where you’re well placed for the coast and walks including the South West Coast Path (both 15 minutes’ drive). And another benefit – no need to start putting up your tent when you get to the site, as it’s all done for you. Accommodation on this microsite with rural views covers bell tents with luxurious touches like a proper double bed (each one sleeps up to four, one double and two single mattresses), plus plenty of storage for the family’s clothes, swimmers and walking boots. One well-behaved dog is welcome per tent too. Each tent comes with a private bathroom with shower and loo, plus outside tables and chairs. You have your own private barbecue too, while kitchen facilities are shared and include a gas stove, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge so you can be self-sufficient when it comes to catering. Fancy a change of scenery? There is a pub and a fish and chip shop in Chacewater village (five minutes). You can stock up on goodies at the supermarkets in Truro (15 minutes), and there’s also an option to use the owner’s freezer to keep your stuff fresh.

Local attractions

If the beach is number one on the list of day trips, you have the choice of heading to the north or south Cornish coastlines. Perranporth (15 minutes’ drive) has a long, sandy beach with dunes to clamber over as well as cafés to keep you all fed and watered, while there are well-known surfing beaches (and schools for novices) up at Newquay (half an hour). If you turn south, Falmouth (25 minutes) has a mixture of sandy bays, watersports beaches and a calm estuary for paddleboarding. St Agnes Heritage Coast offers plenty of wild clifftop walks, or you can stroll sections of the South West Coast Path. Along the way, look out for historic tin mines like Wheal Coates and Wheal Charlotte (all 15 minutes), plus a sprinkling of tiny coves that you might just have to yourselves. As the campsite is only five minutes’ drive from the main A30 road, it is easy for art lovers to get down to St Ives (half an hour) for a wander around the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. If you’re more into food than art, Padstow (45 minutes) has a selection of restaurants from fish and chip places to high-end dining.
