  • Pick-your-own pitch wild camping site by the Tamar river in Cremyll
  • A five-minute walk to the local pub and foot ferry to Plymouth
  • Next to the 865-acre Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park
Now here’s a cool Cornwall location that’s got a bit of everything… Camp Bedrock is just outside Cremyll on the Rame Peninsula, with the entrance to the 865-acre Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park five minutes’ walk away along the coast path. This is a pretty waterside woodland spot on the banks of the Tamar river (and at the start/finish point of the Tamar Way), and you can also follow the coast path down to lovely seaside spots like the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand – or all the way along to the sandy beach and surf school at Whitsand Bay. As the location faces west you’ll often be treated to a colourful sunset as the backdrop to your evening barbecue or campfire too. So that’s countryside, river and coast sorted – anything else? Well, yes actually – the city of Plymouth is just across the river, and easily accessed via the foot ferry a few minutes’ walk away. That means you can be at the restaurants of Royal William Yard in about 20 minutes, or exploring the city centre’s attractions (like the Barbican, the Mayflower Steps and National Marine Aquarium) in about 45 minutes. Closer to base, there’s also a lovely waterside pub about five minutes’ walk away, and plenty of facilities within the country park (including some nice cafés as well as activities like alpaca walks and disc golf). On site, it’s a dog- and family-friendly setup where you can pick your own pitch. As a pop-up wild camping location there are no frills, but you will have access to compost toilets.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked: Great place for peace and quiet yet so near the city with a short walk 5 minute walk to pier and the regular ferry that takes less than 10 minutes. Nice pub with food next to pier also. Good option for a walking backpacker. Site has a water standpipe and compost loo. Is nearly wild camping so all good.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked: Our first lone mother and daughter camp. Lovely little spot easily accessible with public transport. Pick your own pitch, lots of little nooks and hidey places. Very cool vibe with the buildings dotted around. Dean and his wife were incredibly helpful (sorry I couldn't move the firepit back!) and even provided fire wood for us. Clean compost toilet. Great location next to Mount Edgecombe.

Disliked: The only thing that bothered me personally is there a walking route right in front of the site, so there were many dog walkers/hikers walking past us throughout the day and early morning.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Cleanliness of site and very conveniently located for ferry trips to Plymouth and for exploring Mount Edgcumbe. The site was very easy to find and has very easy access to a pathway down to Cremyll, the ferry and a great pub 👍

Disliked: Nothing to dislike! Met the site owner/manager shortly after arrival and he assured us that the site would be improved in the coming months.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great small peaceful site with fantastic walks. Less than 10 minute walk to a great pub with a lovely view and foot ferries to Plymouth. You don’t need the car/camper just park up and explore.

Disliked: Not a dislike just an FYI, there’s not that much level ground.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Everything, peaceful and quiet location with beautiful walks , amazing water views and only a 5 Minute walk to the foot ferry. Country park just across from the camp site and a local shop a very short drive. We had the most amazing weekend here where my Youngsters were able to run around in this safe area without me worrying. The buildings were amazing and they played in them for hours. We had put fires in the evening and enjoyed some music and marshmallows before getting a good nights sleep in this peaceful camp site, clean and tidy and the owner pops by daily

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Very first camper on this site on the day it opened. The location is brilliant, right on the coast path. We stayed 3 nights, my dog loved it sat next to the path saying hello to all the dogwalkers. No facilities other than a toilet and tap but that is part of the attraction. Easy walking distance to the pub 5 minutes, Mt Edcumbe country park and kingsands/cawsand beaches and pubs. Also 5 minutes to a passenger ferry that will take you to the town centre.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: What an amazing little site tucked away on the Rame peninsula! The old ww2 d day fuel depo. Its a semi wild type camping site with plenty of space where you can chose your own spot either facing out over the river Tamar or one of the small wooded areas where it's also perfect for those who enjoy hammock camping. The facilities are basic but perfectly adequate which is the camping I prefer. Wild life here including woodpeckers, herons etc. And if you are lucky you may even spot some wild deer! With a 3 minute walk down the track you will find your self at the cremyl ferry and mount Edgcumbe estate which is a must do if you happen to stay. I took the ferry across to Plymouth which was a fab way to pop to the shops. You can get the bus from cremyl to Millbrook also if you need supplies. The guys s running the site are both locals and super friendly. If you need to know anything about the local areas don't hesitate to ask. All in all I've loved my stay here so much so my 3day stay here extended to 6😂. That says it all really... fantastic spot and I highly recommend popping by for a camp. I most definitely will be coming back before the end of the season. Many thanks to Shaun and Dean for a great place to stay

Disliked: Storm Betty! 😂haha. even so.....it was perfectly sheltered
