The Golden Lion Inn - Lakeside Camping: Another view of the site

General

  • Peaceful pub site on the shores of Stithians Lake
  • Award-winning gardens
  • Fishing and watersports available

It’s bottoms up at peaceful The Golden Lion Inn - Lakeside Camping on the shores of Stithians Lake, where you can enjoy a tipple and some top-notch pub grub at the inn just a flower bed away, either in the oak-beamed bar in front of one of the three log fires, or alfresco overlooking the award-winning gardens.

No need to worry either about not catching your zzzzzzzs after an evening out – the pub is food and family-oriented so there’s no concern about shenanigans after closing time.

All pitches are level, and the site also has internet access, a playground, and fishing and (non-motorised) watersports available. It’s within easy reach of local towns Redruth, Falmouth, Helston and Truro, and is less than an hour’s drive from the award-winning Eden Project.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Totally professional caring staff in all front of house aspects.
Good clean facilities. Hard standings in rear of pub right next to Stitians Lake.
Well stocked bar, St Austell Breweries, open fires, cosy. Reasonable range of food. Good helpings. All meat comes from a local butcher and it is good quality. Five miles walk around the lake. Boat and watersports in summer on lake. A pleasant cafe nearby as well.
    Most enjoyable stay.

Friendly staff in a lovely pub with good food and beer.

The site was clean and quiet and the facilities were great.

    Disliked:

    Not a lot.

My only gripe would be that we arrived back to our pitch after dinner to find that we had neighbours that were parked really close (car park close) to us. The site was 75% empty so there was plenty of room to give everyone enough space.

That said, I would still return and recommend to others.

Warm, welcoming staff who were as usual very helpful. Thank you for going above and beyond by calling my mobile to tell me that our motorhome lights had been left on..we have a fault there. We have stayed with you several times before and like the quietness of the site and it’s rural location. You also offer a good and varied food menu. Would recommend you to anyone.Lovely gardens for the Summer months.

    Disliked:

You need to have a torch as the camping field is dark..however Sarah the new owner probably has lots of plans in course for the winter months and we wish her well with her new venture.

Directions

Leave the westbound A30 at the Redruth exit and head through the centre of town in the direction of Lanner on the Falmouth road. At the top end of town there will be a junction with traffic lights where you should take the left hand turn signposted towards Four Lanes and Helston.

Go up the hill past Morrish's Fish and Chips on the right-hand side. At the crest of the hill, take the left-hand turn signposted Stithians Lake and Golden Lion Inn. Stay on the road for approximately two miles until you see the Golden Lion on the left across the causeway at the North end of Stithians Lake. The site is accessed from the rear of the pub car park.

Local attractions

If you can drag yourself away from The Golden Lion, you’ll find loads of active options nearby. This area is said to be among the windiest in Cornwall, so grab your wetsuit and go to the Stithian Lakes Watersports Centre, just 100 yards away from the park and with sailing and canoeing as well as windsurfing hire and tuition. There’s also a climbing wall, trim trail, children’s play area, Wow balls and fishing available, or you can take a lakeside walk or a picnic if the day’s a bit too still for surfing.

Relax on the beach or catch the waves there instead – north and south coast beaches are a 15 minute drive away. Hire a bike at the site and check out the local cycle trails or go mountain biking, or at a canter with the horse-riding available nearby. Golf, tennis and the attractions Poldark Mine and Flambards Theme Park are also within easy reach.

Stithians Showground is just five minutes away and has regular events throughout the year, from the Stithian Show in July to the West of England Steam Engine Society with Steam Rally, the VW Owners Club and the YFC Country Fair in August, as well as events organised by local groups including horse shows and dog agility clubs.
