Penndra Campsite: Lovely walk up to the village with a view of the campsite

General

  • Secluded four-acre site in a quiet valley by the hamlet of Comford
  • Central spot between Truro and St Ives; 15 minutes from each coast
  • Laidback dog-friendly site; village pub within walking distance

To Cornwall’s north coast for the day, or the south coast? Both are equally easy from Penndra Campsite, in a rural spot 10 minutes’ drive from Redruth – it’s roughly halfway between the two coastlines, so you can drive to either in a matter of 15-20 minutes or so.

In fact, this secluded four-acre site just outside the hamlet of Comford is in a most handy position for getting out to all sorts of Cornwall attractions including Trebah Gardens, Land’s End, the Eden Project, Newquay Zoo and Minack Theatre – and it’s got the Trevince Estate Gardens just next door for a splendidly visit.

Wherever you roam by day, later on you can come back to this small family-run site to relax and recharge your batteries ready to head out again the following morning. Dogs, kids and groups are all welcome here, as are barbecues and campfires (in the designated areas only, please). Facilities include a washing-up area, unisex portaloos along with a designated ladies’ toilet and a unisex hot-water shower.

If you’re planning a barbecue, pick up bits from the village shops in Lanner or Ponsanooth (five minutes’ drive) or supermarkets in Redruth. Alternatively, head into Comford for a meal and a couple of Cornish ales at the local pub, which welcomes dogs and has a Roskillys ice cream parlour for a sweet treat too.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The simplicity, everything was easy. Our hosts were very helpful and understanding, from beginning to end. The other caravaners/campers were friendly. Being dog friendly was very important to us. The honesty shed was a great relief. The location was ideal for getting around both coasts, so we were literally spoilt for choice of activities and places to go. We’ve only just bought this caravan and are complete novices. At no time did we feel like we were doing anything wrong and we had a lovely stay. Definitely revisit in the future.

The owners were very welcoming and helpful, and had a wealth of knowledge of the area. The pitches sizes were good and the dog walking area was lovely.

    Disliked:

The toilets and showers, there were 3 toilets 2 of which were porta loos for the men, 3 days of our stay were unusable and blocked with waste, 1 toilet for the ladies which ended up being the only toilet for the campsite. Only 1 shower was not enough for the site, we have stayed at many campsites that are smaller and have more toilets and showers! I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve had to take my children and ourselves off camp to go to the toilet. People washing in the washing up area as que’s for the showers and the only sink to brush your teeth was in the only working toilet, which was always in use at peak times.
For this reason we cut our stay short and came home early, unfortunately we won’t be coming back to this site.
