Camping pitches in the gold field

General

  • 14 acres of greenery a short drive from the north Cornish coast
  • Indoor pool, trampoline, games room and dog exercise paddock
  • Bar and restaurant open seven nights a week in August

Wake up to an unruffled vista of gentle hills and cobalt seas at Lanyon Holiday Park, which offers 14 acres of generously proportioned grass pitches.

Site facilities are great: you can wallow for hours - free of charge - in the toasty indoor swimming pool; the games room is open all day for TV, pool and video games; the kids can bounce themselves silly on the sizeable trampoline in the play park; and they’ve even thought of the dog, with a roomy exercise paddock for campsite canines (although there are no end of gorgeous walks in the countryside surrounding Lanyon, too).

There’s no need to stress about the essentials, either. It’s all here: fridges and freezers, ample free hot water everywhere on site, hairdryers to keep your barnet looking tiptop, and oodles of washing machines, rotary and tumble dryers, and a free ironing kit.

Lanyon Holiday Park also has a bar and restaurant, open weekends only from the spring bank holiday (end of May) then seven nights a week during August.

A good site with generally good facilities.

The Men's and Ladies toilet block facilities on the field which tents and campervans use were not available and we had to go to facilities further away which are located with the accommodations which have their own facilities anyway! Seemed Odd!

Good clean site in a central location and generous pitch sizes13/09/2020

Excellent sized pitches bordered by shrubs for added privacy.
    Good central location.
    Clean shower / toilet facilities.
COVID traffic light system for toilets let you know how many people are currently in the block.

    Disliked:

Hookup point far from pitch so we needed an extension (this was however provided to us for a £20 deposit).
Water point was very difficult to use as a stand-alone tap as water pressure was very high and nowhere to drain waste water when cooking etc.
Water pressure in the showers wasn't great.

Thankyou so much! We hope you will visit again.

It was a great location. Pitches are well sized and there were extra details like the wet suit washing areas and lots of airers available. Toilets were clean and well-managed with covid arrangements.

    Disliked:

Very annoying that there were so few areas to deal with chemical toilets and our nearest was quite far away from our pitch. The same could be said for recycling facilities.

Pool was closed due to covid, but these have been opened on other sites that we have been to since lock down so it was a shame that a solution couldn't be found.

With no reception open (again, due to covid), there was no one to speak to on arrival. We were allocated the wrong pitch and had already set up by the time they came to rectify the situation. It was all easily resolved, but would have been easier if someone had been on hand to sort that out when we arrived. We have been to other sites since camping reopened in July and we have had people to greet us on arrival.

Wifi was non-existent on our pitch.

From the manager...

Hi Chloe - thanks for the feedback, always appreciated.

Firstly i will try and address your dislikes -

1. You were in Owl field which is only open in peak season and mainly just for tents - it is unusual this year but down to Covid that so many tents brought chemical toilets - where the elsan points are hasn't ever been an issue for us.
2. The recycling point is where it is for ease of collection from our service provider.
3. Our pool is too small to be able to open safely - we simply do not have the staff to allocate to be pool monitors as our main concern is making sure the facilities are cleaned and sanitised regularly.
4.Sorry for the pitch allocation confusion but as you said it was easily resolved - there is always someone to speak to on site all you need to do is call a mobile number (the owners do a walk round of an evening to speak with any guests they see sitting out - we do not like to intrude on our guests holiday)

We are however really pleased that you found the pitch size generous, found everywhere clean and tidy and liked the little extras such as the wetsuit dunk tanks.
We hope we can welcome you back at some point!

Nice large pitch and I requested a quiet pitch, which I got. We were never far from the facilities which was useful for when I needed to use the microwave at 4am. Onsite eating facilities were good and the takeaway pub food was welcome as we could collect it and take it back to the tent!

    Disliked:

Unfortunately we had a lot of wasps bothering us the second we got food out, not sure if there was a nest or similar in the hedge. Also, not really in control of the site but the wind was quite strong due to being higher and more exposed. The play area was for quite grown up children.

From the manager...

Thankyou Jake! Sorry you had a problem with wasps - you should have mentioned and we could have investigated - we shall have a look now.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the requested quiet pitch.
We do hope to welcome you back

We camped at Lanyon Holiday Park for the first time this summer and were very happy we did, so much so we have booked again for next year!

The facilities were very clean and we were aware the staff were cleaning round the clock to keep us all covid safe- thank you!

The staff were super lovely from groundsmen to restaurant staff to owner.

We had a lovely quiet stay amongst considerate campers and our kids made some friends who we hope to meet next year!

The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained.

Would definitely recommend this site to others!

Local attractions

Leaving Lanyon, it will take a mere 10 minutes in your trusty automobile to arrive at acres of golden sand. Surfers will think they have dived and gone to heaven: Portreath, on the doorstep, is not to be sneezed at, but a few miles further they’ll find arguably the best surfing in Britain, on the beaches of Newquay.

Art lovers will enjoy a trip to the Tate at St Ives, followed by a meander through the narrow streets that pack the hillside behind the sweep of the bay.

Also within a short drive are the biospheres of the Eden Project and the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth. Travel a little further and you can make throngs of finny friends at the aquarium in Plymouth.
