  • Pub site a few minutes' walk from Stithians Lake
  • A short walk from a watersports centre for activities on the lake
  • Beer garden overlooking the lake; circular lakeside walk nearby
Get a good look at this peaceful setting in Cornwall. The Golden Lion Inn - Lakeside Camping is set at the rear of a pub, which is open from 11:30 am until late for lunch and evening food (or 12pm until 5pm on Sundays). At this food and family-oriented pub, there's an oak-beamed bar, three log fires and a gorgeous beer garden overlooking the lake. The location of this pub site is also rather excellent, just a few minutes' walk from Stithians Lake and 15 minutes from the A30 near Redruth. Local towns are a short drive away – Redruth (10 minutes), Falmouth (25 minutes), Helston (20 minutes) and Truro (half an hour) – and the Eden Project is a 50-minute drive away. All pitches are level, and the site also has fishing and (non-motorised) watersports available via the watersports centre next door; there's also a lovely circular walk around the lake that will help you work up an appetite for your pub dinner.

What customers say

Golden Lion Lakeside Camping is praised for its beautiful lakeside location and proximity to water activities. Guests highlight the welcoming and friendly staff at the onsite pub, The Golden Lion, which serves excellent food. The site is noted as small, quiet, and well-maintained, with flat pitches. However, several reviews mention that the toilet and shower facilities are dated and could benefit from an upgrade, with some finding them insufficient for the site's capacity. Access to facilities can be challenging in wet weather due to unlit grass pathways.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Small site and quiet. The pub was very welcoming and they serve a nice pint of Guiness. We were there to see the New Year in and had fun and dancing with a live 60s band .

Disliked The route from the main road to the pitch have several pot holes that need attention,as they are almost impossible to avoid.
The pitch wifi was very hit and miss at busy times of the day.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked We Liked how flat the site is and absolutely loved the perfectly kept gardens and views of the lake. As someone with limited mobility, i found the site to be a pleasure to get around, it is also small enough to feel comofrtable and perosnal. There are lovely benches around the site to sit and take in the garden or lake views and the site was very peaceful. We very much liked the onsite pub, The Golden Lion, where we recieved a warm and friendly welcome. The food was outstanding and the service also.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked What a gem of a site! Our first visit to the Golden Lion Lakeside Camping. The facilities were kept clean throughout our stay. The site is so peaceful and the lake has many species of bird life. The night sky is fantastic due to the lack of artificial light in the area.

The pub boasts one of the prettiest beer gardens we've seen. Split into small intimate seating areas it is a magnet for little people to explore!

The lake has a watersports centre with a range of activities and a pleasant café.

There is a limited bus service between Falmouth and Camborne, but due to ongoing roadworks doesn't appear to go past the pub at the moment.

The pub owner Glen and her friendly and engaging staff looked after us so well, Ingrid, Dolly, Kellie, Tom, Zennar and Amelie you are all fantastic - sorry if we missed anyone. The menu offers a good variety of proper dishes, nice to see a pub menu without burgers, chicken strips, pizzas!

The Sunday roast is a favourite with locals and you need to book to avoid disappointment!

To summarise, we enjoyed our four day stay at Lakeside Camping, couldn't find fault and will definitely be returning!

Local attractions

If you can drag yourself away from The Golden Lion, you’ll find loads of active options nearby. This area is said to be among the windiest in Cornwall, so grab your wetsuit and go to the Stithian Lakes Watersports Centre, just 100 yards away from the park and with sailing and canoeing as well as windsurfing hire and tuition. There’s also a climbing wall, trim trail, children’s play area, Wow balls and fishing available, or you can take a lakeside walk or a picnic if the day’s a bit too still for surfing. Relax on the beach or catch the waves there instead – north and south coast beaches are a 20-minute drive away. Hire a bike at the site and check out the local cycle trails, or go mountain biking, or at a canter with the horse-riding available nearby. Stithians Showground is just five minutes away and has regular events throughout the year, from the Stithian Show in July to the West of England Steam Engine Society with Steam Rally, the VW Owners Club and the YFC Country Fair in August, as well as events organised by local groups including horse shows and dog agility clubs.
