General

  • Peaceful park near the north Cornwall coast
  • Spotless facilities and a friendly helpful team
  • Bar and restaurant on site with outside terrace

Ah, what a gorgeous spot is the north Cornwall coast. Surfing at Portreath then hiking on to Porthtowan or Godrevy via the South Coast Path, foraging mussels off the rocks at Trebarwith Strand, tramping around the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Site of St Agnes with its towering beacon… this paragraph was brought to you by the theme 'wistful'.

North Cornwall for you too? Get the best of all its worlds at peaceful and friendly Globe Vale Holiday Park, a Cornish countryside site a few miles from the coast at Portreath and Porthtowan. Cornish coast views – and the St Agnes Beacon – are viewable from your pitch, as you'll see from the superly scenic site pics…

Back from viewing the superly scenic site pics? Trot along to the comfy Globe Vale bar and restaurant with outside terrace to bask on during sunny summer evenings (there's some undercover seating too), handily set right opposite the kids' play area and serving homemade food for eating in or taking away. It's open during peak periods from May to September and has a kids' menu available, as well as a games room with pool table and darts.

The amenities, kept immaculate by the hard-working team, include separate areas for ladies and gents, a disabled shower room and loo, a separate family shower room, undercover washing-up areas, wetsuit washing-off areas, a launderette and a well-stocked shop. A large supermarket is about five minutes' drive away for extra supplies.

Wifi hotspots are across the site too, with wifi passes available at reception.

Large Pitches, Very Very Clean Facilities, Nice Bar on site, very friendly staff, the shop was well stocked, lots of information on site. Ideally located to explore, lots of great beaches and walks very close by. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to others. Thanks for an enjoyable stay

    Disliked:

expensive Charges for Dogs but they not allowed in the bar area, tables outside the bar are all for 6/8 so the area fills up very quickly with 8-10 people spread across 4 tables, and there are lots of people with Dogs so it fills up even quicker!. Shop opening times are a little bizarre but well advertised, could do with being open earlier for essentials.

From the manager...

We appreciate your thoughts on our polices regarding dogs. Our charges for dogs are in line with other similar parks (£3 per night each), which we think is reasonable especially with our dedicated dog exercise area, plus 2 x dog mess collection bins that we empty daily. The outside seating area usually has plenty of space for any guests wishing to sit outside, although the weather is good this area does become more popular! We are happy to recommend pubs in the area that do allow dogs. The shop is closed in the main part of the day as the park is quiet during these times when guests are usually off site. We hope this clarifies our position in these areas for you.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay here, thank you for your kind comments about the park and surrounding areas.

This site is absolutely spotless! The couple that own it are really friendly and helpful, even showing every guest to their pitch when they arrive. The pitches are large and lovely and flat with plenty of toilet and shower facilities. The on-site bar is reasonably priced with a pool table and dart board. There is plenty of space for children to play safely in front of tents or a field if they want more space to play football. The whole site has a lovely calm, relaxed feeling.

    Disliked:

There wasn't a lot for teenagers to do within walking distance, so we had to drive everywhere.

From the manager...

Many thanks for your kind comments. Our aim is to be a family centred park and with the play area and recreation field, this certainly helps younger children to enjoy themselves. Teenagers don't necessarily enjoy the open countryside so much(!), although if they have bikes, cycling down to Portreath beach is popular. For theme parks etc, as you say you need to drive as the nearest one is approx half an hour from here. The pool table in the Games room attracts people of all ages, so is good for evenings - the wifi also works well here, which for older children seems to be a must!

From the manager...

Thank you for sending your comments about our park. We'd like to clarify that we do, in fact, have two shower and toilet blocks on site. The secondary block situated in the Meadow is generally for use for those two fields. However, guests from the Premier field may use it as well. Our park plan (given to all guests on arrival) shows the location of both shower/toilet blocks. It is a two minute walk between them, plus there are also two additional family shower rooms.

I booked this campsite after reading other very positive reviews, and have to say I was not disappointed. The site is extremely clean, well manicured and safe. There's a very relaxed atmosphere, and everything its well ordered and convenient. It's well situated, right off the A30, with an Aldi supermarket a two minute drive away, and Tesco no more than five minutes. The pitches are very well kept and level, and the toilet and shower facilities are excellent. There is a bar/restaurant on-site which serves pub food and the quality was good, perfect for those nights you don't want to cook at the tent. There is a children's park/play area, which kept our two year old entertained when required, although don't expect hundreds of things for your children to do, as this is not what the site is about. It's a great place to base yourself to go out and discover Cornwall and the surrounding attractions. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and I genuinely wouldn't hesitate to recommend the site. I've no doubt we will be back soon.

Local attractions

Globe Vale Holiday Park is close to the A30 so you can be out, about and on your way to Cornwall's best in a holiday jiffy.

Truro is about 20 minutes' drive away dependent on traffic and very well worth an afternoon's moseying about to see its cathedral and wander around its many independent shops (the Truro farmers' market is every Wednesday and Saturday on Lemon Quay).

Sticking to pedal power, the Mineral Tramway cycle path can be accessed right outside Globe Vale and runs all the way to Devoran near Falmouth on the south coast from its starting point at Portreath. It's a 14-mile and mostly traffic-free trail and so is a very nifty way to see the Cornish countryside; bikes can be hired near Globe Vale.

For hitting the surf, nearby Portreath and Porthtowan are both top surf spots and are also popular with families of all ages who come to Cornwall to sunbathe/rockpool.

Both beaches have car parking, nearby bars, cafés and shops, and easy access to the South West Coast Path (the 3.7 mile tramp from one to t'other is mighty purty). More top surfing can be had at Newquay, Perranporth, St Ives and Penzance within a short drive.

Natch you'll want a souvenir of your north Cornwall holiday, so mine the opportunities at Cornwall Gold Centre on the Portreath Road, where the family can buy gold, silver and pearl jewellery, pan for gold, try their hands at pottery or teddy bear making, and putter around the miniature golf course.
