Here’s an excellent option for those of you who’d like a Cornwall countryside experience but also don’t want to give up the convenience of a town location – Farmer Shaun’s Campsite is in a handy location among green fields on the edge of Redruth, about 15 minutes’ walk from the town centre. That setting means you’ll get a full farm experience while you’re here (with cows and pigs to meet, and lots of lovely green views all around) but you’ll also be able to stroll into town when you fancy heading out for some shopping, a coffee, a drink or a meal; the owners particularly recommend the ever-changing line-up at the Buttermarket food court. That said, you won’t have to venture out in search of food if you don’t want to, as the site has its own café serving drinks and fresh meals throughout the day, along with a farm shop stocked with local produce and various essentials including bread, milk and butter. You’ll also be able to pick up homemade sausages and burgers there for your barbecue. If you’re not doing your own cooking on the barbie, perhaps you’d like to spend some time at the shared firepit instead – a fun place for a social evening as the sun goes down. Other guest facilities include a launderette, toilets and hot showers. Getting out and about should be nice and easy from here – the site is close to the A30 and within walking distance of the railway station in Redruth, and there’s a bus stop at the end of the lane for services to local towns and villages.

Local attractions

There are several small attractions that are worth checking out nearby, including the nostalgic Moseley Heritage Museum, with its model railway, and the chance to pan for treasure at Cornwall Gold; both are 10 minutes’ drive away. The National Trust - East Pool Mine (10 minutes’ drive) and King Edward Mine Museum (15 minutes) are also nearby for a dip into local history. For outdoor activities, try the speedy Mega Slip and Slide Cornwall (10 minutes) or head to Tehidy Country Park (20 minutes) for walks and bike trails among woodland and lake views. You could also try the climbing trails of Via Ferrata Cornwall (25 minutes) or enjoy the scenery at a more sedate pace aboard the Helston Railway (25 minutes). And of course, the coast isn’t far off either, for walks on the South West Coast Path or beach days in the likes of Portreath (15 minutes) or Hayle (20 minutes). The lovely beaches and arty attractions of St Ives are about half an hour's drive away too.
