  • Dog-friendly Cornwall site just with views of Carn Brea Castle
  • A 25-minute drive from St. Ives Bay and St Agnes Head; trails nearby
  • Short walk from a train station, medieval restaurant, pubs and shops
At Carn View, you’ll be fully breaking into the Cornish countryside, courtesy of castle views, countryside trails and local Cornish mead. This dog-friendly site is on the outskirts of the small town of Redruth with views of Carn Brea Castle and the sea in the distance (the closest beach at Chapel Porth is 20 minutes’ drive away, or St. Ives Bay five minutes’ extra drive). It’s a 20-minute walk into Redruth town centre, where there’s a train station, bus stops, pubs, bars, takeaways, restaurants and perhaps the highlight of it all, a candlelit medieval-style mess hall with a whole load of Cornish mead flavours to try. The other way, Carn Marth (10 minutes’ walk) has an open-air amphitheatre with shows and a quarry where wild swimming is on the cards. The hill here has great views over Cornwall, so it’s easy to spend a bit of time admiring the scenery. On the site itself, you’ll be setting down in a field with grassy pitches and access to composting toilets, a shower and a water supply.

Bell tent

Liked: Location was lovely, close enough to Redruth if we needed anything and Perranporth was not far away at all. It was easy to find and check in was also easy. The bell tents are incredible spacious and the views from the site were absolutely stunning. We enjoyed our evening with a bbq watching the sun set over the towns in front of us and the sea we could see in the far distance. Michael the host was also very helpful and responded quickly to me with any queries I had. Also lovely hot shower in the morning which I was impressed with. If you love the simple things I’m life and looking for somewhere peaceful this place is ideal.

Disliked: It was very dark at night - although it does say to bring your own torch I do think it could benefit having some solar lights along the paths. I believe there are also some works still going on as the site has not long been open so there was some left over debris. A step up into the shower is also needed as the horse box is quite high. And the bell tent was incredible clean and tidy but o think just a little more attention to detail when tidying the loo and shower between visits - but this could also be me being very fussy!
