Cardinney Caravan and Camping Park: Path through pitches

General

  • Quiet family-run site in the middle of the Land's End peninsula
  • Spacious pitches marked with hedges; smart modern bathroom block
  • A 10-minute drive from Sennen Cove and the Land's End viewpoint

Want to run away from it all but avoid the crowds of Cornwall in clement weather? Head to the end of the country and pitch up near smashingly scenic Land's End at family-run Cardinney Caravan and Camping Park.

This is a site for those into their scenery: the four and three-quarter acres of grounds have been carefully landscaped to be filled with flowers, trees and shrubs, alongside roomy pitches that are thoughtfully laid out and individually marked with hedges.

On clear days guests should have wide-ranging views all the way to the Isles of Scilly, Lizard Point and Cape Cornwall. Award-winning Sennen Cove, full of surfing spots, wildlife watching and stunningly scenic sands, is less than three miles away.

Cardinney's facilities include a well-stocked shop that sells Calor gas alongside grocery essentials. It's also got a fully-equipped launderette and a smart luxury bathroom block (newly opened for the 2021 season).

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Reception is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

The laundry facilities are currently closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

A cable measuring at least 15 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Any tent larger than 7 x 4 metres will require an extra large pitch.

Quite large pitches. Easy check in. Showers and toilets exceptionally clean. I like the privacy of the pitches with hedges separating the pitches.

    Disliked:

We received an email regarding COVID and strict rules but there was only 1 hand sanitiser and that didn’t always have sanitiser in it. The roads leading to the campsite very busy with fast cars. We wanted to go cycling or walking but didn’t feel safe to do so due to the roads.

Brand new shower block - Sanitiser in all parts of small site for personal use, very friendly operator of site. Very clean, well organised and covid safe. Grass pitch with Hedges on 3 sides for privacy and wind breaks. Quiet country location 10 mins drive from Penzance/ Porthcurno beach and small coves plus Lands End. Idea for visit to Scilly Isles by plane hellicopter or ferry for day trip. Our stay was problem free and would come back to this site again to stay in this part of beautiful Cornwall. Thank you

Local attractions

Have a look at the leaflets in Cardinney's information hut to see the best of what's nearby: sandy beaches, surfing, golf, fishing, horse riding and seaside towns and villages are all within five miles.

Land's End first, of course… of all the scenic spots in Cornwall, this is among the most spectacular, and you'll probably need a couple of days at least roaming around the beaches, coves and cliffs here...

Secluded Sennen Cove and its sparkling sands are a first stopoff for many, who come to soak up the sun on its sands or tackle the waves on its surf. Whitesands Beach is also well regarded for surf and joins up with the mile of beach at Gwenver where the waves are a bit stronger (all three beaches are lifeguarded in summer).

On the cliffs, many suggest that one of the best Land's End occupations is just to sit and watch the waves crashing below, but if you're itching for a hike, visit the visitors' centre for a list of walks around the area, or the RSPB Wildlife Discovery Centre just below the famous Land's End signpost to find out what species you can see.

In the evening, the famed open-air Minack Theatre at Porthcurno is probably one of this area's best-known manmade things, set into the cliffs and listed as one of the most spectacular theatres in the world. The season runs from May to September, but tickets are available to look around the theatre and gardens during the day.

Cardinney Caravan and Camping Park is an obliging base for other much-visited Cornish attractions like National Trust houses and gardens, family days out and yet more spectacular beaches: try Godolphin at Helston, Flambards theme park, or lying on the sands at Marazion, Mousehole or along the coast at St Ives.

Must see

  • Land's End (3.9 miles)

  • Tate St Ives (10.8 miles)
