  • Environmentally-friendly site in the Luxulyan Valley
  • A five-minute drive from the Eden Project; St Austell 15 minutes
  • Workshops, wildlife walk and communal firepit
Acorn Camping and Glamping, in Cornwall’s Luxulyan Valley, is an artfully environmentally friendly site with workshops to pique your interest – and it's only a mile (a five-minute drive) from the famed Eden Project too. Budding scholars, get ready to blossom. You could learn sculpture carving or indulge your inner clown by picking up circus skills, including aerial workshops in the site's own woodland… Kids can scavenge about on a woodland hunt and learn how to make dens and build fires. Meanwhile, fiction fans of all ages can listen enthralled to the storyteller who visits in summer. The Luxulyan Valley is a World Heritage Site with Acorn Camping and Glamping at its heart near Par: expect seven acres of meadows and woodland, a private woodland walk, an abundance of wildlife and a network of waterside walks, all centrally placed to some of Cornwall’s most famed attractions. The Hive Café, located on site, serves hot drinks, hearty breakfasts, relaxed lunches and picnic boxes. With a spacious covered pergola, it's a lovely spot to unwind. Pitches are on a gently sloping three-quarters of an acre: park at the site entrance and offload your gear on the trolleys provided to get to your pitch. As a tiny back-to-basics site, it’s Par for the course that campfires are permitted: blocks are available to stand barbecues on, and the communal firepit takes care of cooking (pick up some logs from the site owners). Facilities include toilets, hot water showers, hot-water washrooms and a washing-up area with cold water. Only logs are sold on site, but a shop and a pub are a mile and a half away. Sorry, but because of the local wildlife, Acorn Camping and Glamping can’t accept dogs.

What customers say

This campsite offers a beautiful, tranquil woodland setting with helpful and welcoming owners. Guests praise the "magical" atmosphere, Lord of the Rings theme, and the opportunity to explore nature. Accommodations, including Hobbit and Shepherd's huts, are generally well-received, with some featuring private bathrooms. While many appreciate the "back to basics" feel, a few mention challenges with undulating terrain, narrow access roads, and the distance to some facilities like bathrooms and the single charging socket. Showers have occasionally been reported as having issues with temperature regulation or drainage. The cafe is noted for its good vegetarian food.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked - Ria & Tony made this whole experience. So helpful. So kind. Lots of information about weather/where to visit
- the owners have built everything you see on site and really feels like someone’s home
- beautiful woodland
- lots of little detail and touches (wheelbarrows, shelter cafe with amazing food, fairy woodlands)
- intimate pitch which made it kid friendly we could let them run and didn’t need to watch them too much
- great shower
- toilets were close by
- car park next to pitch
- communal camp fire
- central Cornwall so relatively close to all areas we wanted to go
- feels like wild camping with all the comforts close by!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked Good grounds with interesting trails. Very close to the beautiful Luxulyan walks as well as the Eden Project.
Some showers work very well. Cafe open on a Saturday and Sunday.
Relatively peaceful.
Good value.

Disliked Plenty of laminated signs around the site with important instructions. Would have liked to have made a cup of tea under the seated area when it was raining but unfortunately a laminated sign warned us not to. Parking very tight and road in is bumpy so you may wish to unload your passengers first. No driving on site, use the wheelbarrows provided to get to your camping pitch. Don't book up on Pitch Up as you may get extra charges which aren't clear but are on the Acorn website.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked The site is so lovely, we loved the small size of the camping field and opportunities to explore the rest of the site which our young children loved (as well as us of course) Ria and Tony are wonderful hosts, really friendly and warm. The facilities were clean and easily accessible - showers were great! It really feels like a magical spot and the star gazing was incredible.

Hobbit Hut cabin

Liked It felt like I was staying in a magical valley, tucked away from the world. Just exploring the site with my children was a lot of fun.
I loved having an outside kitchen area next to my hobbit hut, which was well equipped, the fire pit circles and the cafe. The beds were comfortable, and everyone slept well.

Disliked If I was being picky, the shower was a bit fiddly to get to the right temperature, which made showering children challenging, but there was plenty of hot water. And thicker curtains would have helped everyone stay asleep longer in the morning.

Hobbit Hut cabin

Liked Cozy, magical place in the forest. Clean toilets and hobbit hut.

Disliked When booking it said that the cafe was open on the booking site (pitchup), was a bit sad that there was no cafe in the morning.
The shower also had no regulated water, it was very hot the whole time.

Local attractions

Cornwall has hundreds of miles’ worth of walking and cycling trails, but a fine place to start is on the Saints Way, five minutes’ walk from Acorn – it’s a belter of a trip, even if you only do a few of its 27 miles (ideally those that deliver you to the Eden Project). Take to two wheels to cover local cycle trails such as the Camel Trail from Padstow or the gentler trip from the site to Luxulyan village; from here you can take the trains that run from Par to Newquay. Five minutes in the car brings you to Cornwall’s south coast – the nearest beach is three miles away but you might also like to go dolphin and seal spotting from Mevagissey, or take the kids to one of the many family attractions around the coast like the Wingz Bird and Animal Sanctuary at Par. National Trust houses and gardens are plentiful in Cornwall too: Falmouth’s Trebah Gardens should be a hit for all ages, and one of the very-must-sees in Cornwall is St Austell’s Lost Gardens of Heligan.
