  • Rural site in a quiet grassland setting, a 10-minute drive to Padstow
  • Under 10 minutes' drive from the beaches of Harlyn and Trevone
  • On-site bar, live music at the weekend and street food in high season
Craving a quiet Cornish countryside retreat? Sort a trip to Tregella Place Camping and peacefulness plus lovely farmland views will be yours for the taking. This park is a rural spot but it’s also close enough to the necessities you need for a satisfying stay: a chicken farm is a short stroll away to pick up fresh eggs, and a supermarket and a pub serving food are less than five minutes’ drive away. For foodies, this area is a top choice as Padstow (10 minutes’ drive) is a gastronomic hotspot with eateries helmed by chef Rick Stein, along with other highly rated restaurants, coffee shops and bars. If you really want to earn your dinner, get yourselves there on foot: the walk takes you through the cornfields and starts at the top of the lane. But there’s no real need to leave the site if you’re after evening entertainment; there’s a bar (in a converted bus, no less) serving Cornish beers and ciders, plus a packed schedule of live music at the weekend. In high summer, feed the family from the pop-up street kitchen and eat together at the communal picnic area. Thoroughly pristine facilities include a bricks-and-mortar shower block with family-size showers complete with changing areas, electric points for charging devices and hairdryers, and a washing-up area. You can wander directly on to the South West Coast Path from the park, and for adventures on two wheels, the Camel Trail cycle path is nearby as well.

Liked: Toilet facilities were very clean and modern. It was a relatively cheap campsite near some attractions. Quiet at night and lovely views

Disliked: *no greeting and no directions on where to go to book in on arrival. * food and bar were closed despite it being early September *fields pretty uneven you will need chucks *dogs allowed to roam there were 4 dogs spotted off lead in the one evening and morning we were there with no consequences or even supervision from site managers. *site was a bit messy some rubbish from other guests didn't seem to be anyone around who checked / cleaned the grounds.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The site had an excellent toilet and shower block which seemed to be less than a year old, with everything clean and working. There were power sockets outside the block which could be used to charge mobile phones. There was a pleasant view of rolling hills and farmland with sheep and a church tower in the distance. The site was quiet at night and mostly quiet during the day. My pitch was pretty much level. There was a Tesco about 1 mile away which was very handy. There is also a cafe built into a garden centre in the other direction on the "A" road, although I never used it. It is a 2-mile drive into Padstow on the "A" road and it's also possible to cycle there and back on cycle-friendly back-roads (although it's very hilly on the way back). I would not recommend cycling back on the "A" road as it is too busy. You can walk on the coast-path from Padstow or take the ferry to Rock and walk the coast-path to Polzeath. There are attractive coves/ beaches nearby.

Disliked: There is no reception sign-posted, so I didn't know where to check in when I arrived which was confusing. Fortunately a member of staff greeted me soon after I arrived and said I could pitch anywhere. No Wi-fi that I was aware of (could be taken as a plus!)

Liked: Fabulous stay. We were warmly welcomed by Lucy and her Mum. Both were very friendly, thoughtful and cared about making sure we had the best stay possible. Mum was very kind and walked me back from the toilet block with her torch as it was dark. The toilet block is modern and cleaned regularly during each day. I recommend staying here.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: It was just after the school summer holidays so was quiet. The shower/toilet block was nice and clean.

Disliked: If you're going to use the men's showers don't use the middle one as it only runs for about 5 seconds before you have to press it again, and again, and again. And I'm guessing as it was after the school hoildays that is why the bar (in the bus) and the food trailer wasn't open, which was quite the selling point of the campsite, which was disappointing. Walking to Padstow is ok, although you have to go down a small lane (wouldn't want to do it at night).

From the manager: If you want to use the bar and catering you need to come during busier times. There were 4 people on site and it was a Wednesday. We are a family run site and do have children, we use mid week September to spend time with them as the cost of opening would outweigh any possible sales. The opening times are clearly stated in the text you are sent, on social media and on the pitch up site says during peak times. A more built up site would be able to open the bar at a loss as they charge more money for the stay.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice and relaxed campsite. You basically camp where you like. The live music was good and lots of people were singing along. The bus bar is a nice touch. The shower and toilet block is modern and kept clean.

Disliked: There are some long stay caravans set up at the bottom of the field and one night there was a lot of noise coming from one of them. Sounded like a party. The washing up area is tiny and needs to be enlarged. There isn’t much room in the shower to dry and get dressed after the shower and the floor was wet.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Good pitch, nice grass, nice toilets, friendly staff and really cool show at night, they had an oasis lookalike and served drinks on tap inside a bus!!! Very cool and I was very impressed as were my two mates :)

Disliked: Could’ve been a bit flatter for the tent pitches but it wasn’t too bad

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Really enjoyed the whole weekend! Easy to pitch up and enough space between each party, very spacious. Toilet block was lovely and clean and looked new which is a bonus; showers were nice and warm too! Breakfast van was fab and the evening entertainment wasn’t bad either!

Disliked: The only thing to be mentioned that is super picky was the push buttons on the showers only lasting 30 seconds each time but I also understand this helps save water

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Really friendly and lovely staff. Toilets and showers were super clean and well maintained. Love the fact that there is food van on sight and open for breakfast 👌🏻 Plug sockets in the toilet block were really convenient. And free showers!! Really great value and great location.

Disliked: The one and only thing that I could grumble (slightly) about... The showers go off far too quickly before you have to press it again.

Local attractions

There are many pursuits to ponder in the Padstow area, so fingers crossed you have plenty of time on your hands during a trip here. The beaches should be your first place to explore – after getting a glimpse at the closest sandy spots, like Harlyn and Trevone (under 10 minutes’ drive), set off for the scenic Bedruthan Steps (15 minutes). Here for the waves? Hire boards in Padstow (10 minutes) and head for Harlyn (10 minutes) or drive to Newquay (half an hour) and check out the UK’s biggest surf scene. This town also has masses to keep kids occupied, including beaches, a zoo and aquarium. If you need more nipper-friendly places to visit, Camel Creek Adventure Park (10 minutes) is close by and has theme park rides to keep pint-sized thrill-seekers engaged. When travelling child-free, put Prideaux Place (five minutes) on the itinerary – this Elizabethan manor is easy on the eye and also has stunning views out across Padstow’s historic harbour. After having a good nose around the house and grounds, keep the grown-up shenanigans going with a visit to the Trevibban Mill Vineyard (10 minutes), which organises tours and tastings.
