Padstow View Campsite: Views over the countryside

General

  • Peaceful, dog-friendly Cornwall farm site with estuary views
  • A few minutes' drive from Padstow and 20 minutes from Newquay
  • Barbecues allowed; several beaches nearby

You’ll have a tough time choosing between Cornish ice cream and fish and chips when you touch down at Padstow View Campsite in Cornwall. Join a peaceful farm site with estuary views… and use it as your gateway to sandy beaches, harbour towns and the Cornish countryside. Within a few minutes' drive of Padstow and 20 minutes from Newquay, this friendly site welcomes dogs and families.

The showers on site will help rinse away any sand picked up ticking off a list of the seven bays within 10 minutes’ drive (including Trevone Bay, Constantine Bay, Porthcothan Bay, Treyarnon Bay, Booby’s Bay, Mother Ivy’s Bay and Harlyn Bay); there are toilets and a washing-up area on site for guests' use as well. Although there's no wifi on site, most people can pick up a good 4G signal.

Alternatively, while away your day hiking or cycling around the country trails and coastal paths. You could visit Padstow, where boats are on hand for angling or beach hopping and Rick Stein’s famous seafood recipes can be sampled at several restaurants.

Good day out at sea? Bring your catch back to the site, where barbecues are allowed. And if you’re still hungry from all the day’s activities, there’s a shop within a five-minute drive. Handily, there are also several pubs and restaurants (including a dog-friendly pick) within a five-minute drive.

Campsite had open spaces. Beautiful views of estuary. Judith was very welcoming handing out Cornwall informs packs. Facilities were always clean, Judith did a great job at keeping them clean even when she was there at 6am!
Close to a number of beautiful beaches to enjoy!
The coffee trunk that arrived every morning was a nice treat with cakes and milkshakes, what was something different and thoroughly enjoyed by the kids.
All in all a great stay , we would definitely recommend and look forward to staying there again!

Hi Francois & Faro,

Thank you do much for making time to write a five star review. I am so happy you had a lovely time and found the campsite close to the beaches Padstow and central to visit attractions. We keep our facilities really clean as we think this is important and we are upgrading to a toilet block next year with proper toilets and upgrading our showers completely.
We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

The views, location, space and friendly owner who couldn't do enough for her guests. The showers and portaloos were cleaned regularly. We also liked the fact that you could pitch wherever you want. Enjoyed a good coffee and milkshake from the little green van in the morning too.

    Disliked:

Portaloo's, showers and no hot water to wash hands/dishes etc (which we would of preferred especially in covid times) and no electric. The road sign is hard to see especially at night as it is small and there's no road lights and not enough lights surrounding sign.
The owner said she is looking to improve the toilet and shower facilities by adding a full toilet and shower block. We also talked about the little green van and how it is a lovely idea, she said she was looking to getting independent traders in different nights to provide food for campers such as a pizza van. I think this is a great idea as it's something different- trying different foods, a treat so you don't have to cook and supporting local businesses.
She recognised the sign was small and said she is going to get a bigger sign leading up to the camp and at the camp with more lighting.
It is a great camp and has had a great experimental year and once it has had made these beneficial changes it well be even better.
We are glad we could support the owner on their first year and would definitely like to return to this lovely place.

Small, friendly clean and family oriented site and close to all the seven bays.

Judith was very helpful and kind, really wanted us to enjoy our stay and always had a helpful suggestion of somewhere to go or things to do or even to charge any portable battery chargers/inverters.

The large and spread out pitch meant we had space for making our holiday comfortable and relaxing. My daughter loved the open space in the middle of the field and had some memorable campfire.

The portaloos were regularly cleaned and restocked. This was the one thing I was worried about before we stayed. However, it was completely fine and worked well. We had a portable portaloo for our 4 yr. old daughter so that she don't have trouble in the night. There was no issues disposing chemicals at the end of your stay.

We visited Land's end and completed a 5 miles hike from Land's end to Minack theatre. Visited St. Michaels mount, Kynance cove beach, Tintagel castle, Edens project and a two hour sea life safari in Newquay which were all in close proximities from the pitch (more or less an hour drive).

All in all a great find, completely perfect for us and we would highly recommend and will stay again. Judith also mentioned that she is planning to improve the site next year which includes adding hot water in washing up areas, proper toilets etc.

You will not regret your stay in Padstow view campsite. I have added some pictures of our tent under the moon.

The campsite was clean and very spacious. Lots of decent areas to pitch the tent. The campsite was well maintained by the owner Judith. Judith went above and beyond by handing out information packs for Cornwall and introducing herself was very nice she made you feel very welcome and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Even though the toilets were portaloos these were cleaned regularly each day by Judith and all well equipped.we look forward to the upgraded toilet and shower block next year. The little green wagon was a lovely touch to and our children looked forward to a freshly made milkshake every morning as their holiday treat. I would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone staying in Cornwall as it’s close to everything and you can explore many things if you wanted to.

Local attractions

Don’t forget to pack your walking gear… the 18-mile Camel Trail begins in Padstow or Wadebridge (both within 10 minutes’ drive). Hire a bike or trace the route of the old North Cornwall railway on foot. There are trails all over the local heritage coast (several within 15 minutes) or a different type of adventure underground at the Carnglaze Caverns (40 minutes).

The sea is your playground here, too. Boats of all shapes and sizes wait at Padstow Harbour (five minutes) to whisk you up and down the coast for angling or wildlife spotting… keep your eyes peeled for seals, dolphins, puffins and basking sharks under the waves. The ferry will also take you across the river to Rock (otherwise 25 minutes’ drive), where beaches, palaces, and boutique shops make for a laidback afternoon.

Kids are likely to enjoy the steam railway ride at Lappa Valley (25 minutes) or the animals and rides at Camel Creek Adventure Park (five minutes). As for adults, they can unwind with wine tasting at Trevibban Mill Vineyard (five minutes).

Upgrade from a bodyboard to a surfboard at one of several surfing spots in the area. For newbies, there’s a surf school at Harlyn Bay (10 minutes) or more daring swells at Newquay (20 minutes) and Fistral Beach (30 minutes).

  • Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park (1.8 miles)
  • Rock Beach (2.7 miles)
