Padstow View Campsite: Sunrise from the site

General

  • Peaceful, dog-friendly Cornwall farm site with estuary views
  • A few minutes' drive from Padstow and 20 minutes from Newquay
  • Barbecues allowed; farm shop a short drive away

You’ll have a tough time choosing between Cornish ice cream and fish and chips when you touch down at Padstow View Campsite in Cornwall. Pitch up at a peaceful farm site with estuary views… and use it as your gateway to sandy beaches, harbour towns and the Cornish countryside. Within a few minutes' drive of Padstow and 20 minutes from Newquay, this friendly site welcomes dogs and families.

The showers on site will help rinse away any sand picked up visiting the seven bays within 10 minutes’ drive (including Trevone Bay, Constantine Bay, Porthcothan Bay, Treyarnon Bay, Booby’s Bay, Mother Ivy’s Bay and Harlyn Bay); there are toilets and a washing-up area on site for guests' use as well. Phone charging lockers are available for powering your gadgets (with wifi available and a decent 4G signal too), and there are plugs on hand for small appliances like hairdryers.

Alternatively, while away your day hiking or cycling around the country trails and coastal paths. You can walk along a footpath all the way to Padstow (or hop on a local bus), where boats are on hand for angling or beach hopping and Rick Stein’s famous seafood recipes can be sampled at several restaurants.

Good day out at sea? Bring your catch back to the site, where barbecues are allowed. And if you’re still hungry from the day’s activities, there’s a farm shop a couple of minutes' drive away. Handily, there are also several pubs and restaurants (including a dog-friendly pick) within a five-minute drive.

Please note

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

This is a fantastic site, it was quite busy when we went in August but my children enjoyed running around and playing. We had a relatively flat pitch for our tent, I think there were other pitches that were a bit more sloped but we were very happy with where we picked and it's lovely that you can pitch where you like.

It was lovely and quiet overnight, no noisy neighbours but there was the occasional sound of cars going by as we were right by the main road.

Facilities were really good, lovely hot showers and they were always clean despite being there at the busiest of times, as were the toilets.

There is a little shop on site in case you need any essentials, we used it to top up our milk.

In the mornings there was a coffee van which also sold milkshakes, we all loved them so had to make sure we tested them each morning.

The views over Padstow looked great and we were not too far away and visited a nice beach too. It was a great campsite for a family with nice and clean facilities and not too far away from things.

We would definitely return to this campsite.

We were given a warm welcome from Judith (the owner) shown the basics and were always made to feel if there were any problems, we could ask. Judith was always approachable. Her daughter was also friendly.

The showers and toilets were fine, we were given tips where to visit etc.

    Disliked:

Honestly can't think of anything my son and i disliked. I would definitely recommend Padstow view campsite and hope to return next summer as only had a short stay this year.

Well kept field with a lovely view and clean, maintained bathroom facilities. Judith, the host, was really welcoming and helpful throughout our stay.

The Wi-Fi, while slow at busy times, was a lovely additional touch along with the mini-shop for essentials.

    Disliked:

We occasionally got caught out by the 9pm close of the on-site store and freezer bank. This resulted in some rather warm butter. The opening times are clearly labelled but it would be nice if there was a way of accessing the freezer.

We stayed for 6 nights. The site was recommended by a friend.
Truely amazing owner. I had thought people were exaggerating about Judith in previous reviews. HOWEVER, the woman is a legend. Never before have we 1) seen such a dedicated site owner 2) gained so many top tips from someone who knows their area inside out- from best beaches to takeaways and places to visit Judith was a godsend. She was genuinely interested and happy to help make peoples stay a positive one.
The site is impeccably clean and Judith is often seen throughout the day keeping the site and shower area looking great.
Although a pop up campsite- it’s professionally run and ideal for families.
Judith even has swing balls to lend out.
The honesty shop and charging facilities were perfect.
A great location and a place we would definitely return to and recommend to others.

Toilets in campsite and showers in block were never very hot. Bit of a slope but manageable.

From the manager...

Hi Nik,

Thank you for your review. I am so pleased you would like to visit again. I am so pleased you enjoyed the location.
Everybody that has left a review have commented how lovely and hot the showers were and they are so not sure about your comment.
We also have plenty of flat pitches.
Many thanks.

The location here is excellent to use as a base for exploring both Devon or Cornwall. Toilets and showers were clean with lots of hot water with plenty of power for a good shower. Daughter of the owner was very helpful. There’s also a small on site self serve ‘Honesty’ shop, so nice to have that old fashioned trust.

    Disliked:

The lady in the honesty shop that wrote 1x bacon and coke, then took 2 packs and only put one coin in the ‘honesty’ payment box. The idiots who drove quickly across the field, ignoring the 5mph sign, when there was kids and dogs running about. Anyway that aside, as for site review: Closeness to the road, didn’t sleep too well due to traffic noise, wasn’t excessive, however as it was so quiet there the noise was really loud as only a piece of fabric to block it out.

From the manager...

Hi Phil,

Thank you for your 5 star review and we are so pleased you would like to come back again.
And enjoyed the clean facilities and hot showers. It was the busiest bank holiday weekend of the year. As you can see from all our reviews this is a very quiet family friendly safe site with lovely views.
Thank you.

Local attractions

Don’t forget to pack your walking gear… the 18-mile Camel Trail begins in Padstow or Wadebridge (both within 10 minutes’ drive). and there are trails all over the local heritage coast (several within 15 minutes) or a different type of adventure underground at Carnglaze Caverns (40 minutes).

The sea is your playground here, too. Boats wait at Padstow Harbour (five minutes) to whisk you out to sea for angling or wildlife spotting… keep your eyes peeled for seals, dolphins, puffins and basking sharks. A ferry can also take you across the river to Rock (otherwise 25 minutes’ drive) for a laidback afternoon.

Kids are likely to enjoy the steam railway ride at Lappa Valley (25 minutes) or the animals and rides at Camel Creek Adventure Park (five minutes). As for adults, they can unwind with a meal or wine tasting at Trevibban Mill Vineyard or take a gin tour at Tarquins distillery (both five minutes away).

Upgrade from a bodyboard to a surfboard at one of several surfing spots in the area. For newbies, there’s a surf school at Harlyn Bay (10 minutes) or more daring swells at Newquay (20 minutes) and Fistral Beach (30 minutes).

  • Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park (1.8 miles)
